Intake Manifold
I noticed when i pulled the motor down that the intake manifold that is a Edelbrock Performer does not have the same size ports as the heads.
The are about 0.200" narower and 0.100" shorter.
Is there a better intake available or should i just machine out the ports to getter a better flow, i am only looking for 400HP, and have read the this intake is ok for getting that HP, and want to keep it under the hood.
Thanks, David.

Re: Intake Manifold
I don't know much about it but would think you could machine it out that little bit. I put my 4v intake on a 2v engine/heads and there is a big dif in size but my driving i don't notice a difference.

Re: Intake Manifold
It would help if we knew what size engine you were working on. If it is a FE engine then the performer manifold is junk. The stock manifold is better at flowing and the performer rpm is just slightly better then that. I wouldn't try and port match the performer because you just won't get the flow that you want to make the 400hp. Better off with the rpm or something else.

Very good advice.
An Edelbrock RPM is my preference, even on mild 390s, but even a Streetmaster, Street Dominator, Aluminum 428 PI or even an iron CJ manifold will run circles around the Performer.
That Performer is at best a lighter stock replacement manifold. FE's like additional airflow and you will gain mid and upper end with no loss in low end with an RPM.
Add a set of headers if you don't have them and even a stock 390 will wake up significantly

Re: Intake Manifold
Thanks for that, it is a 390.
The main problem over here is that FE's are not a common motor especailly to push a bit on the performance side, and to try and find an engine builder that has a good knowledge depth isn't easy.
We are big on Clevo's and Windsors but not FE's
So i want to try and find out what i should do so i steer them in the right direction.
David.

Re: Intake Manifold
Well, bunches of FE owners here to draw upon... Probably the best bunch of FE owners I have ever come across...

Re: Intake Manifold
Interesting info regarding the Perfomer. I have one on my 390 but have bought an original tripower setup with Holley carbs. What's you opinion on that manifold? There's a mild Compcam otherwise original

Tri power has great kooool factor, would love to have one on mine, but i have been told that a single 750 cfm 4 barrel will have about the same cfm, without the linkage and tuning problems.

IMHO, there is nothing like the original tri-power set up on an FE. I have this and the shorty HP exhaust headers, and it gets up and goes just the way I like it. I have a mild Comp cam/hydraulic lifters/valve springs and with the tri-power and exhaust it is the beast I've been hoping for!
Good luck to you!
