I have not looked at my 390 lately, but the plug could be missing the sealing washer. Not sure if the plugs for 390's had them or not. Also could be stripped threads in the head.

You know I stuck my finger in the hole and it feels like its got good solid threads in there and the plugs are tight......

Does the plugs have a washer on them? The one in the pic has one on it. If not, they might need them.

No the plugs do not have the gaskets on them.

Probably not needed. Somehow I posted and Rich posted before me that 390's don't use them. Not sure what happened as that post is now gone!

So is it possible to have fuel seeping through w/o something being wrong? other than the fuel not being burned.

I haven't had that problem and I can't think of anything. Just a heads up, be careful that you don't have a cylinder fill up with gas and hydro lock.
