Talking She's Alive!!

Got the 66 runnin today(barley lol) The problem I was having with the starting was the red/blue stripe wire going to the starter sylionod was bad somewhere between the switch and the firewall so I got a new wire in there.

Now I got it started and it smokes like frieght train and sounds like its only running on a few cylinders. I pulled the first 2 plugs on the drivers side and there saturated in gas. Any suggestions what to look at for this problem? The dist. cap looks new, and has a new coil. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you gassed the plugs. Did it turn over a lot before it started? If so, it was dumping gas into the cylinders and it saturated the plugs. Pull all the plugs and check them. I would replace them and make sure the ignition system is up to par. It is running, that is a start. Let the troubleshooting begin!

Re: She's Alive!!

Well I didnt crank it much to begin with. when I heard it crank for the first time I shot some fluid in the carb, and it started right up. But later on I did crank it alot. All the plugs look brand new so you think I still need to change them out? What do you think is causeing it smoke so bad? Im going to get a pic of the tail pipes up here in a min!

I'd check the oil too and sniff the dipstick in case there is a lot of gas in the oil. It might smoke a bit just because it hasn't been started in a long time. Give it time to get over it and see if it doesn't stop smoking.

Lots of white smoke can be anti-freeze in the combustion chamber.

Re: She's Alive!!

I think you got condensation burning out of your system.

Check your float level in your carb and make sure it's not flooding your engine out.

Then next time you start it keep it running until it get's good and warm. That will dry off your plugs.

keep an eye on the car's temperature just in case.

Re: She's Alive!!

Ok I started the car again today and I saw that fuel was comming up through the threads on the spark plug where it meets the head. Im confused on why its leaking there. The plugs are in tight. I ran a compression check and the first 2 plugs where around 150 then the next one was around 110 then I think 130. The other side was around 150 90 and then the next one was almost nothing and I stopped after that. Im guessing either some valves are sticking or I have a blown head gasket. But why are the threads on head leaking fuel?
