New Guy from Europa with Gal

Hi Folks,

I'm Elvis from Switzerland. I own several Fords, US and Euro ones. I stayed last holidays 2 weeks in California, Nevada and Arizona. In Kingman AZ I felt in love with a 1967 Galaxie 500/XL. I was not aware of this Galaxie years, I only know the ~1963 an so on stuff. The Gal was for sale by a dealer, but he was never around, no answer to phone or to email. Well... back in Hotel in LA in the last day before flight back I found one in ebay... at the other side of the US, in Florida... Well, you should never buy a car without having a look before, but I did! I don't recomend this to anyone

The car is first owner, first it was in MN and then moved to FL. Therefor it's rusty. The Frame has some big rust issues at the front and the back... The radiator leaks, the P/S leaks, A/C compressor immovable, breaks are almost dead and so on... The car has a 390 2V, C6 and 2.8 axle.

I payed $8200 for it, very much for what I got (I think...), but red is my fav color

Here you will find some pics:

Guten Morgen!!! - Treffpunkt - Hecktrieb Forum

I'm working on getting it back to street bone stock... I'm dreaming of a 427 SO and 4 speed combo, but I think I'll go with a 428 and the C6 in far future

Cheers
Elvis

Well Elvis, sorry you got screwed! THat car was definitely a $1,500 dollar car, that you paid WAY too much for (I'll bet the owwner nearly shat himself with joy).

A little bit of work, a couple months in the Garage, and you'll have he back to new in no time!

I think $8500 might be a little much. But come on, $1500? I'm hoping that is sarcasm. Thats a nice straight car and a good example of an XL. Its the shipping that will be killer. Besides how many XLs are in Switzerland?

Welcome to FM!

the price mighta been high for one with frame issues, but otherwise in the pics it looks good. hopefully the frame will be easily repaired or replaced and you'll have a great looking/unusual car...that is a great bodystyle

Hi Folks!

Thanks for the Welcomes!

Yeah it was overpriced! The car was sold as "no rust", but yeah what should I do now? Looks like I'll have some welding sessions

I never saw a 67 Galaxie in Switzerland! I now they're some in Germany, but no XL's AFAIK! At least the engine runs strong with no noise and no oil burning... (yeah there's oil inside )

Here we go with some pics and the rusted frame:

Cheers!

Re: New Guy from Europa with Gal

mine was worse, but from the pics can say yours is probably not worth repairing...Ive got some frame info if youre gonna patch it up, but gotta say, replacement frame would be a LOT easier...I spent a longtime on ours...now frames are available from outwest, stripped/checked out for around 500 bucks- much better way to go IMO...
swapping the frame is not a big deal, just need a lot of room for storing everything that has to come off. I dont think rust that bad can be repaired without dropping the frame- thats over half the battle, so I'd say swap it...know what I'd do if I ever had to do it again. the cars definitely worth saving, and scary as it may look, its not that bad to have to pull the body off.
