Ford Galaxie Club of America...

kinda curious on how many folks in here are members...to me FM is the BEST Galaxie site on the web, so curious how many regulars here were members in FGCOA?

I need to renew mine, and subscribe here too...

heres a copy of the renewal notice I got with links for anyone interested:

Quote:
Recently, your club membership expired, (8/2009) but you won’t miss the next Galaxie Gazette if you renew right away! I hope you realize that your membership is very important to us! Your support has a great influence on the club and the goals we are striving for.

Do you realize that the dues for the club are only .44 cents a WEEK, if you were to get the new Electronic Membership and only .77 cents for the hardcopy membership? That the yearly amount wouldn’t even fill HALF a gas tank anymore! We have grown in the past few short years, from a 10 page newsletter to our current 40+ page magazine filled with exciting and pertinent Galaxie information and suppliers that have the parts you desire for your Galaxie. You see, with more members we can get top quality reproductions and benefits and yet keep down the cost. If you put in an order from MP Power Brakes for a disc brake conversion set, you will save $100 by being a club member, which would pay for a THREE year club membership. One member recently learned through the club how to rebuild his top cylinders on his convertible for a mere 17 cents a side! That’s right, for the cost of four O rings he was able to save over $500 in rebuilt parts by doing it himself! Your membership will save you money!

I would love to see you back as an active member again. Just think, if all our past members were still current, we would have that 80 page magazine, and at the same cost as the current one. There would be more information, more advertisers, and more free classified space for you. The classified feature has grown from 1 to 5 pages in the past few years. Imagine a 10 page section of free member ads to help you find that elusive part for your Galaxie! Also, the quicker we reach our goals, the sooner our Galaxie(s) will go up in value. As the world learns about us (they are taking notice) and more folks take an interest in our full-sized Fords, our hard work will end up being worth all the effort it took. Take advantage of the benefits you receive as a member, which benefits everyone in the club.

It is worth the effort it takes; your Galaxie will be noticed; our membership will increase; and we’ll maintain a better base of service for you. Recently, we were able to convince Dennis Carpenter to reproduce ‘64 wagon rear door weather stripping because club members asked for it! With your up-to-date membership, it really does make a difference!

Another great benefit of the club is our arbitration service, settling differences between customers and businesses; and members receiving the proper monetary value allotted to their cars involved in accidents (to ensure that the car is repaired or replaced rather than scrapped for a couple hundred bucks). So please don’t hesitate! Renew your membership in the best Ford Club in the world!

“The members of this club could not put all their knowledge of Galaxies in one book. It would take volumes. When a person joins this club, they no longer have to spend $150.00 a year on magazines to get Galaxie information. The on-line help is priceless.”
-Don Novak #1350 63½ Galaxie 500

We continue to accumulate a listing of companies that will give discounts to our members. We have been successful with getting companies to reproduce the hard-to-get parts for our Galaxies. Strength is in numbers and you help make that happen. It is easier for me to get companies to listen when I can tell them we have over 3,000 members. I would like to tell them we have 5000 members!

Thank you for your time. Please either send in your renewal or use the Paypal link below so we can reinstate you as an active member. By the way, if you renew for THREE years, you can save $20. That makes the dues .64 cents a week! Less than HALF the cost of a 20 ounce SODA!

Please utilize the Paypal link below and get back up to date!

Your support is appreciated and needed if the club is going to grow and survive.

Oh, one last thing...you can renew for an ELECTRONIC membership which gives you every benefit that is listed EXCEPT the hardcopy magazine. You would be sent a link to the magazine and it would be available online.
The cost for this? $25 for a year or $65 for THREE years...

Thank You

Re: Ford Galaxie Club of America...

I am not a member, I tend to modify my Galaxies and that appears to be more of an issue to that membership group than to the members here? They are quick to let you know that your modified Galaxie is somewhat less than their "Factory original" version and that just does not set well with me so I just stay from there.

Re: Ford Galaxie Club of America...

I was a member back around 2002, but didnt see much benifit, so I didnt renew until a buddy wanted to go to the Galaxie Nationals in Dearborn a few years back. If you joined, you got a discount on the hotel room. I again let it expire after that and dont feel a need to renew.
Regarding them frowning upon modified Galaxies. I didnt get that feeling at all at the Nationals. Thewre were probably 20 or more cars that were highly modified, non numbers matching cars ( mines a 460/535hp 65 with tear drop hood, etc) and they even had a dyno that you could find out exactly how much power you were putting to the ground

Re: Ford Galaxie Club of America...

I think the value in any of these 'clubs' lies in the ones that actively DO SOMETHING, such as bugging manufacturers to repop parts, or keep after SEMA to watch out for legislation that could make the hobby impossible or difficult.
theres a lot of tech tips type stuff, although with the web/interactive forums like FM, thats almost a moot point...
I dunno about the modified vs stock opinions- I havent seen them to be honest- but the 'forum' they use is not as it should be IMO...the FM site is far better. I know in general theres some folks out there firmly on the 'leave it as it came from the factory' thinking, but most by far are just interested in seeing nice cars.
The 'worth it' part? I kinda think any membership in a larger group adds to the strength of the group and advancing common wishes(especially with things like clout to suggest repops to manufacturers)...strength in numbers. I havent got a lot out of the FGCOA personally, but get te impression they aint there as a big money making enterprise, but as a enthusiast group- so to me it seems a good cause to pitch a few bucks a year at...like my old model airplane field, stayed a member for years even though havent flown in years- membership keeps the field fixed up, keeps the club fiscally sound so they can keep the field owners happy with little improvements etc- but mostly to just try and help keep something there that could easily fade away...one person bitching to the city/council about a noise complaint aint gonna save a flying field- but 50-100 voices will at least be heard. We had a great field years back, everyone pitched in, but no 'club'. one phone call from one new neighbor ended the citys useage agreement on the land with no talks of compromises...if we'd had a 'club' with someone actively staying in contact with the town, maybe we never woulda lost that field...know what I mean?
I dont get a lot out of it, but will renew- its good for the hobby, so its good...and its not like its a lot of money- like FM I shoulda been paying subscription for a few years now...I got more help out of this site than anywhere, and easily owe the few bucks a year...
I do wish these sites/clubs had a way to mail a check in, instead of just cc/paypal...both are safe on the sites, but I hate the way there might be a hundred new virus' on my computer grabbing info as I type...getting paranoid about putting payment info out there any more...this friggin laptop is already messed up- dunno if just the normal microsoft bs of falling apart after a few months use or if its got undetected bugs...time for a mac.

Re: Ford Galaxie Club of America...

I was a member but found more info here so I let my membership drop and became a member here I still go to there site about twice a year to look. Their little paper that they sent out used to be a black and white runoff when I was a member but I think they went to something more professional.

Re: Ford Galaxie Club of America...

I think there are a lot more former members of FGCoA than current members.
I don't think the club's owner discourages modified cars at all. Any member to help pay expenses.
The SoCal Galaxie Club is a good bunch. They used to be afilliated with FGCoA but broke away about 7-8 years ago.

I think the SoCal Galaxie Club hosted the Southern California Galaxie Gathering I went to about 12 years ago. I went just to look and ended up in the show with the only '68. I entered to get a good parking space and goody bag. That was a good group.

I've checked into the FGCoA a couple of time and never joined, didn't see the point. I ended up hanging out with Arizona Fairlane Club for a while. I think you'll get more out of a good local (active) Ford group of any kind. Good people don't care which Ford you drive. Next week I'm going to an Arizona Cougar Club show here. It's a good group even though they're a little specialized.
