Re: Woo Hoo! My new Master Cylinder!

I emailed ABS Power Brakes today. I am interested in the Half Kit #624. It includes 11" rotors, caliper brackets, loaded calipers and hardware. I want to upgrade my 65 Galaxie using the original spindles and alignment specs. The cost of this kit is $425 and it is a bolt-on affair. The calipers are "full-size Cadillac low-profile" units which will accept 14" rims if needed. Hoses, lines, combo/prop valve and master cylinder are not included. I have factory power drum/drum brakes and look to using a compatible Ford master cylinder on the stock 65 power booster along with a later model combo/prop valve. I think the rotors are 68 Mustang. Any comments or warnings?

That is the kit I used. It is truly a bolt on kit and so far in 3 years I have had not one single problem with it.

Re: Woo Hoo! My new Master Cylinder!

When I was researching it seemed there was a switch in design between 1964 and 1965. The kit in DearbornClassics for example.

Some folks like
http://www.dropnstop.com/page2.html
just couldn't go past 1964 at all.

So now when I see a kit that is good for "both" a 64 and a 65 I get suspicious, like maybe it means needs some custom work, like removing the sway bar, to fit on a 65.

Update so far.......

Well this Sunday:

I replaced the old "Fruit Jar" with the new Master from post one,
capped off the rear line from the junction box
re-ran new lines from the master to the front on the junction box and a seperate line to the rear,
added a junction box for the Stoplight switch,
did the Bench Bleeding,
hooked it all up,

and the ONE thing I forgot was adding the friggen adjustable pushrod LOL...... So I only get real stopping from the front since the pushrod is not going all the way to the end of the cylinder bore and is almost to the floor 1/3 inch to be exact.....

Blah....... So this weekend I'll try make some time to swap it out...

While I was at is I also replaced the rear drums, and Steering box!

More updates soon and pics as well....

Re: Woo Hoo! My new Master Cylinder!

Putt,

I am skeptical about the 64 cutoff availability for aftermarket disc brake kits. Admittedly, 65 is basically an unsupported model year for Galaxies in the aftermarket. Disc brakes were coming into their own by 66-67 so the market for brake kits is weak. I am still on the fence with the ABS kit, it would be helpful if someone who has used this kit on a 65 would appear. I have had plenty of troubles with parts that don't fit on several of my cars and don't want to set myself up for another frustrating deal.
