Re: 1964 galaxie lights wiring

I had a similar thing happen except it was with my front right that was messed up. The problem ended up being the front right signal housing wasn't grounded good enough to the bumper from corosion between the two. I would bet that if you were to pull your housing out of the bumper and clean it off real good and also clean the bumper area around the signal to get a good metal to metal contact then your problem would probably go away. Also check the bulbs inside the sockets and make sure that there isn't any corrosion inside there.

Not sure if this will fix the problem either but I had problems with turn signals and brake lights and it was in the plug that goes into the firewall to the fuse box was corroded. Wouldn't hurt to check it and clean it up if needed.

Re: 1964 galaxie lights wiring

A little bit off topic, but has anyone else had the problem of the bulbs popping out behind the dash cluster? Seems like the factory wiring is too short.

Wasn't a problem when I was 26, but at 66, getting under the dash to insert them back into the holes is getting really old.

More than likely a bad ground but check to see if a recient bulb replacement had the wrong bulb installed. That will cause all type of problems. ( I.E. single filament in place of dual)

Re: 1964 galaxie lights wiring

Good idea gbic, i've done that myself not paying attention. Doesn't work very well!

Jerry, nope, only when I take the cluster loose to hook up the speedo cable. Maybe there is something causing weight on the wires to pull them loose. There are little metal things on each side of the socket that keep them in place. Maybe they need bent out just a little so they hold tighter.
