Re: FE Engine Identification

The OP said that it has a 4100 on it. Check the way the spark plugs are angled, an FE are \ \ / / .

Re: FE Engine Identification

First is it even an FE or 289 engine? Quick way, valve covers overlapping the intake manifold or the water pump is not bolted to the timing cover. Evither of those 2 and it's an FE. If the other way, it's a 289.

I would really like to have a good guess as to what I have and am putting in my Galaxie. It has an autolite 4100 (the 600CFM version), and I took a pic of the following number on the intake with my phone. It has the casting # C6AE and then below it 42 - G. Does that give us any clues?

The INTAKE in your picture is a FE intake. It's a 390 428 casting that can and was used on damn near all FE engines.
You can't tell what you got in an FE block unless it's cross bolted, or a 501 mirror block, all others are guessing games as to the cubes as that engine block had every combo of cubes from 332 to 428...Measure your stroke to find out what crank you got like the guy's above said. The engine is equipped with all the tools necessary {except the plug wrench} to do this.

Re: FE Engine Identification

I apologize for the confusion. I bought the LTD thinking the FE engine in it was the original one, and that the VIN would tell me what it was (or at least a good guess as to what it was). However, the VIN coded out to the small block, which this engine is obviously not!

It is definitely an FE, and it has an Autolite 4100 carb on it (4 barrel, 600 CFM I believe - 1.12 casting on side or something like that).

I didn't make it to the car today. I attended a car show near it, but time did not permit me to swing by the car. I'll take a look in the next couple of weeks and get the stroke.
