PCV Valve question

I have always eleminated the pcv valve on my older cars we do not have emissions and I was at the part store yesterday the guy told me that if I remove the PCV valve i would lose horse power, Is this correct? I thought it was just for emissions. any help on this would be much appreciated.

Re: PCV Valve question

Positive Crankcase Ventilation.

One of the things you do by eliminating the PCV is allow the buildup of pressure in the engine, that can cause the oil to be pushed up through the dipstick.

but if you put a breather on, it should not build up pressure right? I have never had oil come thru the dipstick on the Galaxie. or on my bronco when I changed it.

Re: PCV Valve question

pcv valve is the best thing to happen to the internal combustion engine. blowby from the rings collects in the crankcase. this results in water and sulfuric acid buildup in the oil. pcv doesn't affect horsepower or gas milage. this is a win win situation. you should not remove it

Re: PCV Valve question

PCV is not necessary, but it increases the life of the oil drastically {see the above mentioned reasons of contamination}

But it will NOT effect the HP of your car.

Your original post did not mention a mitigating release of gases (adding a breather). Thus I answered whether someone should just eliminate the PCV valve.
