FE block ID

Does anyone have one of the Ford engine books that identify the applications for specific blocks?
I have a C7ME-A block and I can't find my books right now? On line what I can find is that this is a 67-70 428 or 68 428 Shelby GT500?

I don't trust that as by my crude bore measurements (with a ruler) it appears to be a 4" bore? I can't measure the stroke right now as the motor has set on the ground for a long time and is froze up.

I suspect this is a 67 mercury 352 block but can't find anything on line that would substantiate that thought.

Re: FE block ID

Crank #'s and bore size are only true indicators of the engine. 4.05 is a std bore for several engines. No 352's in '67.

Re: FE block ID

According to my book, should be a 428 for 67-68, and should have a 4.13" bore.

Re: FE block ID

No chance Ausgal, even for someone with bad eyes, .13 of an inch is EASILY readable with a ruler or a tape measure.

Meaning that 4.0 is readily differentiated from 4.13.

I'm 99.9% sure it's a 67 352 block. Who in the world let's a 428 block sit on the ground out in the open...?

I do...

It was initially covered in plastic for was going to move, and that was going to take only 1-2 weeks, but wound up taking four months. Then going back and loading up the near complete engine. The plastic sheet had eroded and blew away by then. A 427 will also stay outside quite easily too.

I think you will find it is C7AE that is the 352 block for 67.
I'm no expert as i am new to FE's but i have been doing a lot a reading, and the FE is one family of engines that sure has some parts changes through it's life.

Re: FE block ID

I wasn't speaking about parts interchanging, I was referring to the ease of telling 4.0 from 4.13 on a ruler or even a tape measure...

Wasn't trying to cast doubt on you.

Re: FE block ID

Check the bore with something more accurate. 4.00 is 332/352, 4.05 is 360/390/410, 4.13 is 406/428. Crank determines the rest. Casting #'s won't tell you much and I haven't found any book that matches what myself and others have found to be true.
