64 power steering hydraulic control valve

Found a leak in my power steering hose. Good news, I have a replacement hose in my garage.

Bad news.

Steering cylinder (wrong wording in the subject line) is "wobbly" where it connects to the body (center).

Is the a fix that a rebuiling kit would include?

Best source for a rebuild kit? Greg Donahue?

Thanks

well, I bought year ago complete rebuilt controlvalve from rockauto.com
It rocks , no more leak, no wobbiling !!!

NO need to disassemble that worn "thing", & buy repair kit,
and notice that is not enough, but & hunt more parts, then assemble it,
and you notice that it leaks !
I bought 2 repair kits, "thing" leaked for 10 years..

Re: 64 power steering hydraulic control valve

The steering cylinder or power cylinder connects to the center of the center link at one end and the frame at the other end. Both ends have rubber bushings holding them tight. You can get the bushings at O'Reilly Auto Parts. At least I did for a 62.

Re: 64 power steering hydraulic control valve

"They" don't recomend trying to rebuild the cylinder yourself. Mainly because you cant properly rebuild it without cutting it open. Thats not to say you can't replace most of seals. They still call that a rebuild I guess.

I'm not sure that the kits will adresses your issue or even worth the effort. I think there geared towards shaft leaks. Rebuilt(or new) cylinders start at about $190-250 +core.

Are you talking about a wobble at the shaft in the cyinder? The other end is a ball and socket...

I read it again. Are you talking about where the shaft mounts to the frame of the car?

I might be confused.
Do you have a picture or diagram?

Re: 64 power steering hydraulic control valve

I'm confused also. Are we talking about the control valve or the power cylinder?

Re: 64 power steering hydraulic control valve

looks like part # 3A540.

Could also use the rubber grommet that secures both hoses to the body, 3A609
