oil pressure relief valve

Hi Folks
Does anyone know if the 1962 406 had the oil pressure relief valve at the rear of the block?I am going to check my guage and see if it works properly.I am getting 100 psi on start up and goes down to about 80 when warmed up.Any tips would be appreciated.

Re: oil pressure relief valve

As far as I remember my 62 replacement block (non crossbolt) has it.

Re: oil pressure relief valve

I think that some of the 406 motors did and some did not. 1962 was the division year and depends upon how old your block is to begin with, is a marker as to if they did or did not then. Is mentioned in my old booklet by Ray Brock obtained from Ford many years ago. Sort of like the 406 cross-bolt controversy.

Re: oil pressure relief valve

You should easily by then have a rear exit pressure relief valve. Only the end of 1961 and the first couple months of 1962 had the normal version.

You got a more normal one then. Operation is mentioned via the Brock booklet for 1962 engines.
