Vacuum actuator and limit switch 67 Galaxie

Both the vacuum actuator (see picture) and limit switch that sits on the firewall of my 67 Galaxie have failed. Other years might be the same. The vacuum actuator opens heat/AC door as well as control the limit switch located directly behind actuator. When closed the electric switch does not allow elect power to the A/C compressor. When switch is open/button popped out it allows power to the compressor. Hopefully someone has used or new ones for sale; or else can identify company that sells. I've tried the normal jobbers and they don't have. Have also listed in the "Items Wanted" forum. Thanks in advance.

Took the limit switch apart and fixed it. Now, got to find the actuator. Hitting the wrecking yards Monday!

Re: Vacuum actuator and limit switch 67 Galaxie

On my 65 country squire I disconnected the vacumn actuator and tied the arm so I can have heat, the a/c does not work so I dont have to worry about power to the compressor. There is a company who advertises in Hemmings that rebuilds those parts but cant remember the name.

65-68 with AC is all the same, so you at least have 4 years of cars you can look at for the needed parts.

Re: Vacuum actuator and limit switch 67 Galaxie

Same thing happened to mine. Which really stunk because here in the "winter" we need a heater in the morning and A/C in the afternoon. The donor vacuum motor Dad and I used was from under the dash of a 77 Merc. The canister was a little shorter and a bit bigger round but the travel was about the same. It still works today. So I don't think you have to be too car specific in your hunt. As long as the travel and pull threshold are similar, you should be in business. Also, the newer car you pull one from, the less likely it's diaphragm is to be dry-rotted.
At the same time we replaced that vacuum motor, we replaced most of the under-dash lines as well. Many of them had longitudenal cracks that weakened the vacuum signal.

Mustangs Unlimited - The Premier Source for Mustang, Shelby and Cougar Parts and Accessories

This is the universal replacement for most of the vacuum motors Ford made from the 60's to the present.

Cut to length and twist if necessary.

Its what I'm using on my '68. If you shop around you can find it a little cheaper, but it wasn't that easy to comparison shop for this.

COAF-18A318-B A/C Vacuum motor is still available from Ford. I ordered one Friday from my old dealership. I have used two others inside the car on the plenum for heat/defrost and recirc doors. The problem with used parts is the rubber in the diaphram tends to crack and dry out causing leaks.

Interesting, thanks for that part #. Here it is listed on Rock Auto, not sure what they are at the dealer but this is about $20 cheaper then the mustang part.

MOTORCRAFT Part # YH161

Re: Vacuum actuator and limit switch 67 Galaxie

There is more to the story. I bought two from Rock Auto. I had ordered three. They sent an email saying that Motorcraft had discontinued the part and only had two left. I bought the two they had. This was a few weeks ago. I was at the old dealer where I used to work and asked the parts guy to look it up. He said he didn't see anything about it being discontinued and said he saw ten in the inventory in Memphis. I ordered one and it should be here tomorrow. The price was the same for me as Rock Auto's with an employee discount but about 25 bucks higher full list. I would call Rock Auto and see if you could get one from them, they could have been mistaken.

Re: Vacuum actuator and limit switch 67 Galaxie

The engineering number on my old actuator is C6AA-18A318-A2. Not having any luck getting it crossed over to a Motorcraft number. Think I'll see if I can get one at Rock Auto. Thanks again for all the inputs.
