Same thing happened to mine. Which really stunk because here in the "winter" we need a heater in the morning and A/C in the afternoon. The donor vacuum motor Dad and I used was from under the dash of a 77 Merc. The canister was a little shorter and a bit bigger round but the travel was about the same. It still works today. So I don't think you have to be too car specific in your hunt. As long as the travel and pull threshold are similar, you should be in business. Also, the newer car you pull one from, the less likely it's diaphragm is to be dry-rotted.
At the same time we replaced that vacuum motor, we replaced most of the under-dash lines as well. Many of them had longitudenal cracks that weakened the vacuum signal.
