What do you think?

I have a '79 Pace Car that needs front seats. I can get late model '90s seats that match my color interior pretty cheap or I can recover the original Recaro seats that came in it. The material wouldn't be original though and the cost of recovering them would be more than twice the cost of the used seats. I once was able to find someone who could give me original fabric but the cost was around $500 a seat, ouch!

Is the '79 Pace Car valuable enough that having the original Recaro seats is worth the cost of the re-upholstery job even if it isn't original fabric? Or should I seriously consider the used seats?

Why not keep the old recaro seats and just put in a used set? That way, if you decide to sell the car, you can send the originals with the car and retain it's collectable value. By the way, 79 pace cars are starting to take off with collectors. As always, they want it as original as possible.
