428 Galaxie passes" Woodward Cruise" traffic overheat test!

Just got the Galaxie running this weekend with the new cam set, carb and intake.

I'm just now messing around with the fine tuning on the carb and timing to get it to run the best it can.

The car seems to like the 16* timing the best,if it's set at 14* the car starts harder and does'nt seem as fast.

Anyway, last night when she first fired up with the new cam I had to run it for about 20 minutes to break in the cam.

It was about 90* outside and the heat index was 105*!

The car never went past 180* during this break in!

The oil pressure was also good at 70 lbs. cold and 45 lbs. hot.

I was running straight water with a 160* t-stat,13 lb. cap and a factory clutch fan with shroud.

Today I dumped the water out and put a 50/50 mix of antifreeze in her.

I was going to add a pusher electric fan to the car to be sure it runs cool but,I really don't think the car will need it?

I figure the 20 minutes of running standing still at 1500-2500 rpm last night with a heat index of 105* was a good test of the cars cooling capabilty?

I figure she will handle the Woodward Cruise duty just fine,I know it gets pretty "bumper to bumper" on Friday and Saturday!

Woodward, me and the Galaxie are coming for ya!

Ok Polar, Here is some pics of the engine.

Don't mind the "rats nest" ignition wires or fuel line as I'm going to putting new stuff on.

I'm going to custom cut some new Accel wires to make them fit real nice and the fuel line will be braided.

I'm just glad I got her running last night and I can do all the little tuning and details later this week.

Here are the pics.

The tall K & N filter clears the teardrop hoods bubble by about 1 inch it should pull some mega air into that 428!

Gotta put a dual bowl master cylinder and a "Woodward crowd pleasing device".........I mean "line lock" on next week also!

Then after she is all tuned in I'm going to practice my "smokey line-lock" burnouts to get the best process to yeild "maxium crowd pleasing smokers!"

Hell yea DT!! Thanks for the pics. That 428 looks real sweet! I'm feeling a litle bit of Cubic Envy with all of you BBF'S in the front row at Woodward....but that situation will be rectified over the winter and in time for Woodward 2003...guaranteed! Ok Drag 79 I will post some more pics in a few days of the car.

I will also post a pic of the burn out to see if you guys think I'm making enough smokage!

It has a pretty nice little lope to it,it's only a 230/230 @ 50 cam with 109 LSA so it does'nt sound real racey but,you know its got a cam in it.

Thanks guys!

Last night when I was getting ready to start it I decided to pull off the new BG 750 carb and put on the old combos Holley 780.

I figured that the old carb ran just fine before and the new one was untested and could be way off and that might cause the engine to not start up quickly?

Well,I got it running pretty quick and did the correct cam break in procedures.

Then today I pulled the Holley off and put the new BG 750 on.

The floatbowls were set way high on the BG carb, when I was cranking it over I could see fuel pumping out the vents!

No problem, back the floats down and adjusted the needle valves right in.

Runs real nice and starts up real good!

Gotta order some more "odds and ends" for the car Tues.

That's probably the neatest thing about being a car nut/gearhead. Every day can be like christmas. (i.e. parts coming via UPS/Fedex, etc, etc, etc).
Anytime a package gets delivered, I know I get giddy like a school girl , just knowing it's a new toy/part for the car.........
