What will be considered FORD muscle and or a classic in 25 years or so?????

Was thinking about it the other day... What are we going to be tinkering with in our garages in 25 years or so... Or what might are kids be tinkering with....

If you look at what the big 3 are putting out there really are not that many cars to consider a muscle car... You know what I am getting at... At least I hope you get what I am trying to say....

Do you think there will be any cars out there now that will be highly sought after in the future???? I mean we are now restoring mustangs, galaxies, falcons, t-birds, fairlains, e.t.c.... I just can not see anyone 20 years from now restoring a escort, contour, taurus, etc to go and cruise woodward for instance... I was just thinking what has the big 3 done.... Will are kids be able to enjoy what we are doing today or are we the last of a breed....

I know alot of people are into the 5.0 scene e.t.c.... but is that all that is left of the cool fords and muscle car scene or is it just me.... I mean Ford has put out a couple cool vehicles besides the mustang... The lighting truck and the new Murader (Spelling) are pretty cool...

Talking with kids today they have no idea what it means to get in there and get all greasy.... Talk to kids today and they consider a modification to be for instance... Installing a different shifter knob, some carbon fiber dash inserts, some neon lights, and cant forget the hidiouse looking and sounding exhust systems they are getting put on... And of course then they think they have a 10 second car... RIGGGGHHHHTTTTT!!!!!! Are the rice burners taking over or what????

How do you guys feel about this????

Anyways I feel better now that I could vent... Back to working on the 65'

I think today's 5.0 stangs are the 55 chevies of 25 years from now. Heck, they already are. Cobras and SS Camaro/Firebirds, will too. Vettes will always be there. Don't rule out the Vipers, either.

I bet the biggest hinderances to future muscle will be the price/availability of gas, and the complex electronics.

Even vehicles like the Jeep or Toyota Land Cruiser, which built their reputations on being a simple durable vehicle that you could repair with duct tape and Wrigley's in the jungles of Peru, is too complicated to fix now unless you have a Masters in Electrical Engineering, three languages, and twelve fingers.

But I bet that with the big three's trend toward building multiple vehicles on a single platform, there'll be a whole new kind of garage-wrenchin'...taking parts from all over the makers' spectrum, and building from the wheels-up custom street rods...

I bet they'll still start with a 302 block, though!

SVO Mustangs get my nod, too. Ironically, some of the cars coming out in the next couple of years are gonna have more potential than anything we've already mentioned. The new GTO will have instant status, as will Dodge's new Hemi Charger.(along with anything else they're gonna put the Hemi in, except maybe the trucks). The new 05 (04.5?) mustang for sure as well as the Ford GT. The new SSR pickup/roadster from chevy is gonna be hot. One we didn't mention is the Prowler. It's taken a dip lately, but will be collectable due to it's limited production #'s.

I can assure you as a youngin myself that muscle cars aren't going to be out of the car scene for a good long while. Sure these stupid rice burners are taking a good chunk out of our teenagers that could turn to real cars but don't let that make you think that we're turning our backs on the vehicles of our past. In fact I'm helping my friend find an old muscle car right now. He's got a '86 Jeep 4x4 that he works on all the time but he needs (wants) an old car now lol

I honestly don't see people in the future restoring these Civics, and Eclipses and whatever else they have out there. I don't really see them doing that with these new Mustangs and Camaros either. Or Corvettes for that matter. I hope not at least. I'd rather see them devote their time and money to preserving the cars of Americas golden age of the automotive industry. I know I will be

You're totally right about kids not getting messy working on their cars now. They think that adding those stupid neon lights and annoying exhaust, oh and you can't forget the ground effects and the non-purpose serving wing in the back, to their car makes them look like they know what they're doing. They say they work on their car yet they have no clue as to what the insides of their engines are. Get real. Then you see 'em at the drags and they're only running 14's & 15's after bragging about how fast their car is.

Alright I better stop there. I could go on for quite a while about those rice burners

I'll admit that I don't know a lot about the internals of an engine but I do get in there and get dirty and greasy lol It's always fun doin' it with my dad knowing he's there to correct my mistakes

Adios gentlemen

Don't forget that, by design and by culture, Japanese cars are basically 'disposable'. The whole cult of keeping them around beyond a couple of years is a new phenomenon (exceptions: Toyota Land Cruiser, early Datsun 240Z, and a couple of others) where as American car culture is pretty much entrenched--it's been around as a serious lifestyle since about the 30s. That's also what makes an American monster 4x4 or V8 RWD car a status-symbol in Japan.

But, yeah, SVOs and stuff like that will probably prevail, and engines will have to get smaller and more efficient due to emissions and the price/availability of gas.

As an aside, my buddy's got a propane-powered cop-model Crown Vic which moves like a scalded cat--I wonder when alternative fuels and muscle cars will successfully combine?

I view the front wheel drive cars produced over the last 15 years as (expensive) Bic lighters, use 'em and toss 'em. I have stated here before that I hate front wheel drives. Alot of it is due to ignorance and stubborness on my part. I do not have the time, money or inclination to purchase all the latest manuals, training aids, tools and diagnostic equipment to work on these computerized cars. Like someone has already said, when the computer on a 20 year old car goes bad, where you gonna get one? When you walk into a dealer service department and ask for a part for a 5 year old car they look at you like your asking for a part for a cotton gin. They know they are selling Bics. I feel that the government mandated pollution standards have given the car manufacturers a free ticket to bend the consumer over a barrel. I agree that pollution controls are necessary, and theres nothing I'd like better than for us to be able to wean ourselves off the Middle Eastern oil nipple so we could tell that whole bunch of losers to go screw themselves, but the automotive industry is one situation where I am not sure the free enterprise and competition based system is working for the consumer.
I like the rear wheel drives. With a little fabricating you can mix and match anything to make one of these babies go. When you get into distributorless engines and computer controlled trannies, it would take a GOOD electronics engineer to fabricate a working system. I have often thought of using my neighbor's wrecked Escort wagon to try my hand at fabricating a distributor for the distributorless piece of crap. Slapping a carb on it would not be a problem.
What will be "muscle cars" in 25 years? I don't know. I would guess it would be rear wheel drive based on the preceding arguments. Stand alone electronics will continue to get cheaper and easier to work on however so it's anyone's guess.
Cheers,
Kywookie

I'm gonna have ta go with the Fox body Mustangs, 'Birds, Cougars and Mark VII's with a few small-block Rangers thrown in for a good mix and maybe the occassional front-wheel driver. Don't laugh, back in 1979 who would have thought the Fox body and 5.0 would have become the phenomenum they became??
