Police Issue Fairlanes?

Anyone know of a police force who used late-model Fairlanes/Zephers for highway pursuit? A friend of mine just picked one up, and he claims it's Law Enforcement surplus. It does look like it had a comm stack in it judging by all the holes in the dash/console and roof... It also has black 10-hole rims, like the police Mustangs I've seen...

Do you mean Fairmonts instead of Fairlanes?

If so a lot of departments used those kinda cars back then.

His is a Zephyr. I wasn't sure if they were also called Fairlanes in the US. It's a two door coupe.

While looking for info, I came across this site. No pics of his type, but check out the "do" on the "officer" in the Ford product shot (first pic)!

Amazing True Life Adventure:

Back when they were new, Port Moody (BC) Police Dept. experimented with Fairmonts in an effort to save some money. They took the whole lot back and traded them in for something stronger the day that a prisoner braced his shoulders against one of the back doors and kicked the other one right off the hinges.

I think that somebody strong enough could do that with any car.

I got a story that kinda goes along the same lines as this one?

Back in 1998 when I went through the Police Academy I was learning the "book in" process at my citys Police department.

I was going through the process with my trainer to "book in " a guy that was arrested for domestic dispute with his wife.

I was just about done with the pictures and paperwork when another cop walked in.

He went to the property lockers and removed a sealed plastic bag from them.

I saw a womens purse and some womens cowboy boots getting emptied from the bag and placed on the counter top.

I knew he was getting ready to release a person from the jail and that was her property on the counter waiting for her.

Well, sure enough the jail door opened and out comes a chick I graduated high school with!

She turned red as hell as soon as she saw me!

I did'nt know what to say to her so like a moron I said "hey how you doing"?

I dont think she was doing that good after spending a few days in the hootch?

Anyways,it was a strange deal and I'm sure she has been back to jail more times by now?

She was a hell raiser all the way through school!
