Ok, maybe I'm just dumb but I always thought King of the Hill was a Texas only cartoon. Shows what I know.

Ok, back to the subject at hand. I'm not sure if anyone has seen it but there was this guy on a Rippley's Beleive it or Not episode that had his whole head tatooed with I think it was blue puzzle peices fitted together and I think he even had those devil horns you spoke of IronYuppy. He at one time even came into the store that I work at but I didn't get a good luck. Some people and their hobbies... Guess I'll never understand.

I know who that guy is; he's called Enigma, and he used to tour with the Jim Rose Circus a few years ago--I saw them at a Lolapalooza one year.

Yup, not really my cup of tea, but better that than torching houses for fun, I guess.

King of the Hill is on Fox up here. It's pan-cultural, but I bet there's tons of gags that just go over the heads of us non-Texans.

My theory of why tattoos have gone mainstream is that as the West becomes increasingly secular (for better and worse), people are becoming more and more starved for Permanent Guiding Principles to cling to, something which religion used to provide in spades. They are desperate for something profound and permanent to swear allegiance to, because not really believing in anything is an awfully scary existence. These garish tattoos and body alterations are not an act of anarchy; they are symbols and declarations of their faith in Harley Davidson, The United States Marine Corps, death, hot chicks or whatever.

You may be right, Linden, but how do you explain the woman who works with Mrs. Iron Yuppy, who got a logo she saw on a bottle of shampoo tattooed on her shoulder "because it's neat"?

I think my theory falls apart when you add alcohol, shore leave and a month's pay. And some people get little things 'cuz they're "cute" or pretty or whatever, but I still think a lot of it is a quest for permanence.

Philosophically yours,

I really dont like tats, I never really understood them either, I found the plating thing interesting.. but thats as far as it went. I pointed it out to my girlfriend, and she kept reading down, only to see nasal goats (not blaming you NG, I actually agree......) comment on how "nothing skanks up a girl faster" and she's been wanting to get one for a long time... She said she wouldnt for me (thank god) and now she's all pissed at me because I laughed when I read it...
