454 *CHEVY!* engine into a FOX Mustang???

sorry I had to put in my .02, but here goes. I know a guy that did this swap into a '83 Capri (basically the same car) and yes it runs well, but at that horsepower level, it costs the same to go with a BBF as it does a BBC. His runs 5.8's in the 1/8...but I have another buddy that has an '86 stang that runs faster with a "real mild" (his words) 466 BBF. Of course I'm Ford biased, but if someone wants to make some power...a BBC will sure do it, though watch out for cast cranks. They don't like much more than around 500 HP, then they start to crack/break. Early rectangle ports are good for more than 5-600 HP, but really the ports are too far too large (like the 4bbl clevelands) for anything less. Good luck, however you do it!

I guess from a "strictly mechanical" standpoint that BBC would be a good choice to power any car.

I guess for me (and some others here) it's justa "sore spot" to see any Ford powered by a Chevy engine?

I have seen so many Chevy powered Fords at shows and 99% of the time the owner is "blabbing" about how superior Chevy engines are over Fords.

I can say that any "flames" you are getting here would be nothing compared to the ones you would get if you posted on a "all Chevy" board about a 90 Camaro that you wanted to power with a 460 Ford motor.

So in closing,I did "hold back" on my true feelings on this topic (the only reason I used the this topic sucks icon is that up until this point I have used them all except that one so I figure this topic would be a OK time to use it).

So you gotta remember that this "hardcore" Ford board is gonna have tons of guys who don't like Chevy powered Fords either so the "flames" were on there way either way I figure?

P.S. I really do like somma the things that the BBC uses, my 532 BBF uses a BBC exhaust port and BBC style rear sump oil pan so they had some good features!

So you see I was not "after you" at all with this post it's just that we "disagree" on what motor should go where.

So go to a Chevy room and ask them about putting a Boss 429 in a Yenko Camero and see what happens.

Why not just forget the big block and stroke a 351W to about 400 inches, throw in a roller cam and some Canfield R heads. You'd have less weight more torque and one bad ass motor. This might be a fair challange against a 454 but I'd still put my money on the Ford. Now if you want to cheat any 385 series big block Ford would need ballast in the trunk to slow it down enough to make a fair comparison. To answer your question "don't do it you will slow the car down"!!

First i would like to apologize for keeping this thread alive. I refuse to take sides(blue team/red team) I like many others who frequent this board are true blue ford fans. I have at times recieved criticism for building a maverick, but it is mine and I would not have it any other way. I think perhaps there are some that may just be a little fanatical at times but that is what makes the Ford vrs Chevy war so much fun. My own opinion is build it the way you want. I would not do that kind of swap myself as I like to see pure chevy or ford. I would like to take a moment to express my displeasure at the personal attacks on both sides of the fence. Grow up this is a place of knowledge and learning not a 1st grade playground. We all have our own ideas and levels of devolopment. I think every member (mostly anyways) is as important as the next, from the administration on down to the new guy. Well, I for one won't take it personal if you reply in a negative manner to my post I will just laugh it off. Brave men behind keyboards remind of politicians.......and candy asses.

PS this is not an attack on anyone person just an observation.

Fine.................

I appologize for getting personal, but when I get called certain names, the red flag goes up, and hostility presents its ugly head.

Childish?.......You bet your ass. Part of what makes building/racing/owning cars a great sport...................

Done........................
