454 *CHEVY!* engine into a FOX Mustang???

I LOVE FORDS!!!! Ford engines in Ford cars, but I can appreciate any performance car that somebody wants to build. Who gives a damn if he's going to be criticized by the Ford AND Chevy crowd. It's his damned car! He probably made a mistake asking for advice about this particular swap on this board, but I'm really shocked at the venom this guy has received. I have a friend with a 67 Chevy II with a 347 stroker Ford in the nose, and most chevy people can't believe how good it fits. There aren't as many critical people as one would think.

It always amazes me when people from the "other" brand come into a Ford based newsgroup or forum and expalin how great the other brand is.

I hope Ford nuts don't do the same? Seems to me if your chosen addiction is so good you wouldn't have to agressively seek to convert others, they should naturally go over to the other side on their own. Lookk how many former die hard GM'ers have seen the 5.0 liter light. You didn't have to talk them into it, just a few losing encounters is usually all it takes for them to realize it ain't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the amount of fight in the dog. Just cause there are more of them, don't make the better, just easier to build.

What really takes the cake, is they try to justify it by saying they thought we would be more understanding. Hey I'm understanding...I help old ladies across the street, don't make fun of the disabled...but that don't mean you can poke me in the eye and tell me it's good for me.

Devoting way too much time answering ridiculous challenges. This "snot" is probably having a his day made by all the attention he is getting.

With a torch and welder, you can make anything fit. hell, we got a guy here, who has a radically built 305 chibby, stuffed into an 85 rx7. Now he wants to put in the 502. Also seen an Astrovan with a 350 shoehorned in. Crazy stuff. I'd rather stuff a BBF under the hood of my Merc...

454 *CHEVY!* engine into a FOX Mustang???

i am not going to adress the guy who started this post but everyone else. To be quite honest the guy probably doesnt even have the 454 he mentioned. They are getting rare as hen's teeth and if he does I doubt it was free. More likely he is a kid and a chevy lover who wanted to start a bunch of crap on a Ford site and he did. He is probably eating this up laughing with his adolescent friends. Lots of people put chevy motors in Ford products and go around with the chevy motor is best sign hanging around their necks. I always tell them if GM made a decent platform for a body they wouldn't have to do that. The money thing is not a viable argument. some one in here mentioned that it was cheaper to build a chevy 454 than a Ford 460. this used to be the case but not anymore. 460's are way more plentiful and with the advent of CNC machining the cost of after market stuff is about a toss up. There are alot more choices of parts for the chevy I'll give your that. But cost isn't an issue. I've run the numbers. the reason I think he is BS ing everyone is the way he quickly got his hair up on his back when folks started in on him. Any idiot would guess that this is a Ford site and would be less than receptive to an idea like this. Example would be lets all go to a chevy board and post about putting a "free" 460 into a Chevy platform. wouldn't that be a real sweet topic? I am quite sure they would all throw a gasket. AND just in case the young man is on the up and up I wish him luck. However, it won't be an easy swap. I also would like to see some numbers on how it runs because I already have some numbers on how a BBF runs.
Later peeps

well there! i guess he told you. but seriously now 67fastback you knew the response you would get so you shouldnt have bothered unless you are young and/or didnt know any better. but for advice for ya i would look into an easier route. considering 454s are getting rarer, you could get good money for it. then take the money and buy a 460 like the guys said and it will make the swap so much easier. there is alot of aftermarket support for the 460/foxbody. you will thank yourself later.

i do agree let people do what they want as long as it doesnt affect any one else and i am a true ford man with no other brand sence i was 16 but i would say sell the 454 there is a very big market for them and buy an old lincon that runs good put a mild cam and nice intake it will be just as or faster than the chevy and have more respect when you have a fast chevy its just another one but when you have a fast ford people love it . either way good luck oh also a c6 is much stronger than a 400 turbo

454 *CHEVY!* engine into a FOX Mustang???

Hi all!
just got back from catalina island, and WOW, look at this frikin thread......madness.
well looks like i got lots of USEFULL information after getting punched black and (FoMoCo)blue. THANK YOU THANK YOU.
Really, now...my agenda was simply to see if this would be an economically feasible thing to do to a car strictly used for 1/8 mile fun. I have searched hours (google) for informaiton before posting, really my last resort. To the people who hate me, understand that.
My buddy 351 (who i asked NOT to post anymore) said it when he mentioned that the 454 is not allowed in a '80 vehicle. The propane makes it an alternative energy clean engine, but DMV rules will not allow it to be used in CA. this is WHY the swap had come to be thought of as a possibilty... simply to explore!

Ive never even worked on a SBC, not that i would not. My favorite engine is a 351W, mostly because it has a taller deck height than the 351c or m, more cubes and the potential for even MORE. Of course i would like to buy a brand-new block and get custom pistons with the pin located way up top and long rods.. that way i have a execellent rod ratio and extended piston dwell, by a few degrees of crankshaft rotation. Of course every part would be of the highest quality forgings, blueprinted and balanced,,,,and thats just the bottom end... But $$$$$'s says "NO!"

!! I guess i gotta sell the engine. [after july31 i got a permit 'till then ] !!

*
*RacinGator* Thanks thats awesome help do you know if companies exist who manufacture a motor plate or swap kits?
*1Bad88GT* well.. dont get so angry, it sounds like you're in a war!
*chris21*, thanks but i wont mind others' opinions if i did i would be dead from stess & unrealistic expectations from all sides + this car is for SPEED not paint or looks or interior, or for anyone else but me- as its going down the track- thats ALL. Thats everything. Dont matter to me what bits hold it together.
*N2omike* i agree with YOU, thanks
*Beoweolf* Why are you so angry? Have you and 1Bad88 been fighting? you deserve to know thats its Beowulf anyways... yours is "BAY-o WEE-o Ufff" Man you made yourself sound silly. I like the "ufff" part.

BTW for those who think i hate ford... My first car was a 1967 Mustang Fastback, purchased by me when i was 17 from the orig. owner who i knew. He 'claimed' a wopping 400,000 miles. That was in 1993. Ive never completely dismantled a car but this was close to it ..took me 7 years to complete her myself. She was my first love and i still got her... Ive been daily driving her until i got a permit for the truck again. The first water-pumper i ever built is still in 'er... The engine from my 1970 mustang i crashed while delivering pizzas when i was 18. Oh and the first transmission i ever rebuilt is still in her too; a 1992 AOD. Also i got a 9" rear with 3.89:1 gears & Detroit Locker, but i didnt build that...but got the whole thing for $770, not bad considering that Currie wanted $1,400 or so..

****THIS POST here is for those who have posted and might have wanted some follow up****

If the car is used for track only, then the DMV has no say in the matter.
I have seen swap kits advertised for small block Chevy's into Fox body Fords, they even come with headers.

*Stanley Superior* The DMV, Smog referees, and their regional manager, John Fortay wont let me register or get pink slip for my '80 chevy c-10 propane 454 truck. (pictured)The mustang's gonna be off road, so ur right; DMV has no say in THAT matter (i hope)

And the 454 engine:

This things taken me to 120mph verified... more pedal was def. there but it was gettin pretty damn hard to control. scary

Taking this beast to Irwindale speedway on Thursday, Why the hell not? I only got it untill July 31!!!@!#$@#!#$@!#!!
