454 *CHEVY!* engine into a FOX Mustang???
Ahhhhh a 454 Chevy on propane sure brings back memories for me......I use to work at a industrail engine rebuilder and we did a ton of propane 454s for big forklifts and wood chippers!
Those suckas did chip wood good!
We also did some 460 Fords too but,we did a lot of 454s!

Dang guys, Private messages are just that... and should not be reposted into the forums. That's poor taste.
I was under the belief this was a moderated forum... A forum that squelches out and deletes stupid crap like this before it has a chance to get going.
This is a tech forum... HELLO!?!?!?!?

454 *CHEVY!* engine into a FOX Mustang???
I was hoping that this post would be locked up by the moderator when all the childish name calling and BS started but it appears that there is no moderator.Since all the Fordmuscle heavy hitters have made a reply (Greg Cook,Chilly460,Drag79Stang,DynoTom,64Tbolt,Stanley Superior N20Mike and others)I see no reason why I can't chime in although I don't consider myself a "heavy hitter".
'67Fastback: You have the beginnings of a perfect bracket car(truck) in that 454 shortbed truck. Since you can't register it why don't you dump the old man propane setup and install a hi rise/Holley carb, headers, mufflers to get past Irwindale tech,a mini spool with some 4.88's and a set of slicks. Instant fun race vehicle on the cheap and you don't have to piss anyone off or spend a bunch of bucks putting a Chevy in a Ford.If you can afford to go to Catalina for the weekend you can probably afford to have some fun with that old truck.Bring it out to Irwindale this Sunday,I'll be racing the Morris and would glad to share some shade and a soda with ya.
For all you guys who went over to Mustangsandmore: It's a good site but you better agree with Alex(Moneymaker) because it's his way or the highway.Kiss his ass you'll be fine.
Peace.

Hi Just Jim,

Thats an awesome idea... Haahee that brute -a bracket racer, that just tickles me!
Was wondering what goes on at Irwindale on Sun... is it serious bracket racing only? I would have emailed you, but couldnt find the address... I am def. going early 4:30p or so on thursday... I couldnt make a pass on Sunday, could I?

454 *CHEVY!* engine into a FOX Mustang???
I was going to type "guys, who gives a rat's a** any more", but then I realized I do, and the fact that I do is kinda tickin me off! This is like watching the OJ trial now - I don't want to be interested, but every time this thread comes up I tune in again.
Not to add another take here, but like I said before I don't really see the fact that he considered trying it as a sign that need to call a priest in for an exorcism or anything (geez, guys, it's an '89 4 cyl LX for hell's sake)and I even think it sounds pretty fun, but having tried to do similar things in my own and friends' cars over the years (always with more curiousity than qualifications, though, on my part) I gotta say what would be helpful would be to sit down and to try to think about what areas you would run into trouble with and what YOUR options are (like, for starters, who can help you with things like motor mounts, and what transmission are you going to run and where are you going to get it, and who's going to make the cross member for it, and who's going to cut your driveline . . .), and just figure out how many things you can really do yourself or can find a buddy to do, and be honest with yourself on how much it's really likely to cost, and then give yourself a good solid 35% pad because you will overlook little things (like the rear end you're going to blow up) and also be wrong on about 1/2 of what you estimated. Projects like this are really all about both what AND who you know.
If you really give it some thought piece by piece, you might be surprised either way (it might even be less of a $$ project than you think). Truth is, you could stick that 454 on a lawn tractor if you have a buddy who loves to weld and plenty of time on your hands and you don't care if it's pretty. The transmission and the rear end are going to be problems though, I'm thinkin.

Hey lighten up on the guy! He got the car free and apparently has the 454. If you're on a budget...and who isn't these days, what are you going to do? And yes I'm a Ford freak but also a car guy.
To answer his question, yes I've seen it done. A guy at a local cruse spot has a Vortexed 454 in a early 90's Mustang. Other then distributer clearance which was tight with the small cap, it looked like it fit fine. I also saw one guy that had a Grand Nation V6 in his Mustang too!
