CD repair kits, do they work?
Anyone use that CD scratch filler to repair a CD and have it work? I'd like to try some, but opinions are welcomed!
Thanks,
Greg

I've never tried any of the repair kits, but if your cd just has some light surface scratches keeping it from being read you can take ordinary tooth paste and rub it onto the cd face real good then wash it off under the faucet. This will remove light scratches and will help most of the time. If you have a gaulge or part of top of the cd where the writing is is messed up your SOL...

I've used one and it worked... to a degree.
However, a guy here at work has said that Pledge furniture polish will do the same thing. Just rub from the center out, not around the diameter of the CD.

What you are doing is polishing out the scratch. Pledge won't do that. You might get some results by carefully polishing with some old fashioned white toothpaste. Rub it from the center out. Do not rub it around and around it's perimeter. You might even have some luck with a very fine polishing compound. Do it a bit, then clean it off and try it. They will generally still work with 'some' level of scratching.
Good Luck!

I just use a plastic polish, novus #1 or #2 works well for cd's.

All of the replies are good starts... But if you can see through the CD, it can't be fixed. The TOP of the CD is the part that has the music, so it cannot be repaired. So.... hold the CD up to a light and if you can see the light......

Thanks for all the replies, guys! There is a pretty good scratch on the bottom of the CD, I believe this is causing my problem.
I tried car wax, didn't touch the scratch.
Tried Pledge, didn't help.
Tried toothpaste on an old CD and it scratched the heck out of it. Even with extra light rubbing with a soft cloth and water a good amount of scratching was evident.
I'll try a CD kit and see how it does.
Greg
