Went drag Racing
Last friday i went to dragway 42 in Ohio, it was my first time since i was three that i was at a dragging track. I grew up at circles. Well i had a blast just watching. Had my girl and one of my best friends.
This friday i decided to "borrow" the parents car, a '95 Contour, since my torino is in my garage and the engine next to it.
I was really nervous, but i cut a .860my first time. Some people there said that there first light was 1.1++. The car is a 5spd, and i rode 3rd gear up to about 5400RPMS, to the finish line, it's a horrible 4th for speed. I had a 17.391 @ 80.6. Then the next time my friend came with me, i had a 1.054 light and a 17.348 @78.65 at the 1/4. I shifted to 4th about 200 feet from the end, and it sucked, so i downshifted back and took off.
I only went twice, too afriad of breaking the car right now. But all i have to say is, my Torino is going to be there alot once i get the motor built.
Just had to let some excitement out

Glad you enjoyed it. It gets better with time, I"m told......
Kinda sad that out of this fairly large town, there are only 3 people that drag race. (well, more than once a month anyway).
This place is all about roundie round crap. Every saturday nite, Cedar Lake Speedway, (hell, I can hear it from my house).
If there were more (GOOD), drag strips around, I"m sure there'd be more participants, but alas, only slippery rock within a hour or so away.
Again, glad you enjoyed yourself. More people need to come and experience the thrill!

The way I look at it, racing of any type is racing whether it's circle track, draggin', road racing or whatever. It's all fun! I've done little drag racing (once years ago) but I'd imagine the adrenaline rush of cutting a good light is comparable to coming off turn 4 rubbing fenders in anticipation of the starter throwing the green flag.
I'm building my '64 Custom to handle as well as go fast in a straight line. The circle track type suspension might cost me a tenth or more at the 'strip, but it will be cool to find some curvey roads and do the 'Dale Jarrett' number too.
BTW, I live in the middle of a hotbed of both types of racing with plenty of drag strips (including Dragway 42) and circle track within a hundred mile radius.

Thats not good. Have to beef it up now so it will take what you dish out. Drag racing at the track is a blast. Wished i did it more.
