I we can put something together with this deal I really feel it could be a very very helpfull tool to use in buying cars....
Right now if I find a car that is too far away to go look at I almost have to "rule it out" as a possible buy.....if I could have any person besides the seller giving me info and pics of it I would consider that a huge advantage!
Even if it was just to give a general overall impression of the car and seller as some sellers just seem like they are hiding stuff from ya.....this is only very evident when you are with them "face to face".....I don't see how having a fellow FM member checking a possible sale out for you could be a bad thing!

I agree with previous posters that each person's standards, expectations, and expertise will vary and that a checklist of items especially important to the potential buyer should be available to the person doing the evaluating. With high dollar items it would still be advisable to personally lay hands on the merchandise, but at least fellow FMers could weed out the chaff.
I still say zip codes or state and city are the way to go on this. I don't know about other states but area codes in Kentucky are really laid out screwy and are not always a good indication of where a person lives.
There are several ways we could go about this. If a searchable online database is not feasible for technical, financial or security reasons, someone could volunteer to keep an offline database. A list of all willing participants and their contact info (email and phone number) could be plugged into an Excel spreadsheet where it can be alphebetized and/or sorted by zip code or state.
Phone numbers are important because not everyone checks their email daily and in the case of auctions quick responses may be necessary.

OK.
I'll volunteer to compile and maintain an offline database until such time as the site administrators can do something with it. I feel in order to reap the benefits of the program one should offer his/her services to the program, whatcha think? If you want to participate please email me your name, full address, phone number, and area or radius you are willing to cover. When someone needs an item inspected you can contact me and I'll see if I can hook you up with someone in the area.
Thanks,
Kywookie

Count me in. I have a digital camera also so I'd be willing to take pictures and provide a general impression of the vehicle in question.
