Probably cause the taurus (uck) sold about 3 or 4 here (Aust) but from what i hear sold like coca cola over there (what were U guys thinking).

Ute is slang for utility. I think that's what a lot of Australians and New Zealanders refer to light duty pickups or car based pickups as.

Any weirder than SUV?

yes it would be nice to be able to get some of the american stuff here in new zealand,those BA falcons are nice to drive and they look grouse-5.4l v8 260kw for the xr8 model,but the 290kw pursuit BA utes are mean,there is also a turboed i6,pumping out 240kw stock.
