Yep - I really really should have bought tires in Jan. It's a big difference running a soft sidewall tire vs a stiff one. Feels like the ass end is all over the place about half track. And the burnouts are weird. Friday's T-N-T was rained out - so, right into the first points race on unproven stuff.
They DO grip. Got two .470 reds to prove that. I started at 15 lbs and dropped to 14 which seemed to work OK. Not enought laps to really learn. I think 12 psi is going to be the sweet spot. It still looks like the very outer edge of the tire is not on the track. I got a handle on it just three times - A 1.76 60'/7.95 out of the box and then two 1.77 60'/ 7.98's. The last run I lost by .03 - I must have had too much water on the tires or the left lane was going away (big humidity - like 98% and temps up-and-down all night) because the car thumped once on launch and fell off to a 1.81 60'/ 8.03 run. If you take .04 out of that for a good hook it would have been a 1.77/7.99 run. That's pretty darn consistant in relatively bad air. So once I learn to drive the durn thing again I should be doing well. Check out the rear tires vs the pic in my sig - I got that wrinkle wall going' on good!:
