Sprint Car Restoration Pictures Part Two:

Here are a couple of pics of the car I am restoring. The second picture has my uncle in 1X in the middle. He ran the car as a Super Modified (1st picture) and as a sprint car. (2nd picture) I am restoring it as the Sprint Car.

Those are some cool pics! Who's the one in the tank top?
I remember as a kid watching these things race and somewhere on old 8mm film is an accident at night and all you really see is peices flying and a tire that flew up in the air. Everyone was ok, only sustaining some cuts and bruises. Sure isn't much to these things that's for sure. It's cool that you are now restoring one!

Absolutely awesome! As you can tell, I can't get enough of these cars.... Something I'd been wondering was whether this was a homebuilt sprinter or if it were a Stanton, Maxwell, or one of the other famous builder's chassis? Either way, she is defintely a

BTW, for anyone that is turned off by the Chivvy engine, there were a fair amount of Ford powered sprinters back the late '60s-early '70s. Gus Linder kicked a lot of Chivvy a$$ in western and central PA in his 289 Cobra powered sprint car.

Keep those pics coming!

I like how in the middle picture, the groove of the track is bone dry and there is a huge puddle just a few feet away. It's nice to see that all dirt tracks are the same.

This car was built by my uncle, he ran an automotive repair business by day and built cars for people by night. The middle picture is in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico in 1976.

What about Ray Tilley in his Ford powered #88 sprint and Gerald and Miles Chamberlain also, Die hard Ford guys who mopped up quite a bit here in the late 60's and early 70's.

I love going to the local dirt tracks to watch the people run around here. I especially like the late models and the pure street classes. We have a local guy here in the pure street class and he is a Ford Guru he was half tracking those chivvys. Spanking them real good.

Gerald Chamberlain is one of my all time heros! After reading about his exploits with his 427 FORD powered Mods for years, we went to what was supposed to be the last
race at Reading Fairgrounds in late '78. Just watching that cutdown #76 Falcon with the injector tubes sticking through the hood broadsliding those turns was worth the 400 mile trip. Gerry ended up finishing second in that 200 lap race after coming from the back twice! If anyone wants to see pics of Gerry and some of his rides, including Paul Deasey's 427 Cammer powered #707 coupe, check out :

His Falcon was eventually sold to someone over my way and reputedly the chassis is languishing in a barn near Indiana, PA. A friend I've lost contact with was trying to find it's exact whereabouts for me.

Dirt track racers are a bad subject to get me started on. I could bore y'all to tears with this stuff....

Gerald and Miles have an automotive repair shop in Everett PA right now. They are only about 30 minutes from here. He ran a late model at the cumberland speedway a few years back in an old timers race. Another legend of our area was the 711 of Elmer Ruby and his 348-409 powered sprints. Elmers car is restored and comes to some of the local shows once and a while. It's pretty era correct to with the plywood top wing and all.
