Think I figured out why my old engine stopped running...

A few days ago I was stripping down my old engine to pull it from the car and get parts to assemble the new engine. When I removed the timing cover I curiously pushed against the side of the timing chain... Man was that sucker loose! I'm surprised it held out for the 1,500 miles trip I made to Maine the week before it died.

I bet it jumped a tooth or two. That would be at least part of why I could never get it running again. It would certainly explain all that trouble with the points, distributor and timing I was having near the end.

Well in any case the new engine is almost all together. If this freak snow shower goes away I'll be pulling the engine Thursday before work (can you tell I'm anxious?) and dropping the new one in on Sunday. I wish I had a garage big enough for the car _and_ me to be in at the same time.
