SCREAMIN’ EAGLE/VANCE & HINES V-ROD WINS GATORNATIONALS

If you're happy Tom, I'm happy. You ever see one of them run up close? I have a friend that makes some carbon fiber stuff for them, Jeggie, Austin Coil... They are a VERY cool machine & sound neat too. I heard from a little birdie IHRA wants to bring fulie bikes back

A guy I work with is pretty tight with Byron and he sez that it is the guy's work ethic that makes it pay off.
I remember him telling me that last year the NHRA was making the Harley's ADD weight. Now they weigh less
Are those "Jap" bikes really "Jap" bikes?? Those are engineered and built here!!
I think they would have won a race have last year but driver error held them back.
I don't think this is a flash in the pan win.
My .02
Mike

First, the V-Rod is not a typical Harley engine. It's a one-off sportbike type V-twin powerplant that was designed for racing. You will not see a real Harley engine ever even try to run with the fastest sportbikes.

Second, I'd like to know the exact weight and displacement limits for both inline 4 and V-twin entrants in Pro-Stock bike.

The reason Harley is in pro-stock, is the crowds want to see it. They want to see a Jap/American duel... with the American Harley winning. The rules will be tweaked with weight and displacement limits until they can make it happen. Having Byron Hines on your side doesn't hurt, either. He's pretty much the grand Wizard with those bike engines.

Bringing in different rules for the Harleys is pretty much like NASCAR on two wheels.

One set of rules, and may the best man win.

No Thanks!

Page 156 of the 2004 NHRA rule book.

45 degree case v-twin engine allowed up to 200 ci.
45 to 60 degree case v-twin engine allowed up to 160 ci.

2 valve Jap engines are allowed up to 92 ci.
4 valve Jap engines that are 94 and newer allowed up to 87.2 ci.
Older Jap 4 valve engines allowed up to 79 ci.

Page 155 of the 2004 NHRA rule book.

Harleys up to 160 ci. must weigh at least 575 lbs.
Harleys over that will weigh at least 600 lbs.

Honda's and Kawasaki's must weigh at least 575 lbs.
All others must weigh at least 600 lbs.

All weights include the rider.

Yeah, and not to mention that the Harleys also get to run mechanical fuel injection, where as the Suzuks and Kaws still run Paul Gasts' Megatron Lectron carb set up. There is alot of stuff the HD's get away with. The "Jap" bikes still run stock cases. Nobody makes aftermarket cases for them. There a few places that make aftermarket blocks, but they are not anything high tech. I enjoy AMA motorcycle racing. The AMA Prostar series is a blast. I have been to a few races and seen NOS gulping Pro Mods, Nitro belching Fuel bikes, street bikes, V- twins, and Tons of boost running Funnybikes. Pro Stock Bike is ccol to see a few times, but after that its like watching the Damn Pro Stock Cars. The only time there is something different is when they crash.

I'm just an old country boy, but how do those team mates who qualify 1st & 3rd meet in the final round? Shouldn't they be on the same side of the ladder, and if they both keep winning meet in the semi-finals? What am I missing?

That's great news Tom!

I hope that promotes more interest in the sport of NHRA ProStock Bikes with Harley in the points race now.

RPM....1st & 4th would be on one side of the bracket, with the 2nd & 3rd qualifier on the other
