wheels.....Cragar SS or Torq Thrust II ????

Those are cool. I like the painted spokes on the chrome rim. You're not converting to six lugs are you?

Where I am EVERYONE has TT's or the classic SS rims. So I say get the best of both worlds and buy the new SS forged alloy 17's

The Cragars...They are Chrome over aluminum (on the spoke section) and Chrome over steel on the rims. Aluminum doesn't like to be a base for Chroming, in the deeper recesses of the spokes, sometimes QC is a bit defiecent. So you need to be religious about cleaning, polishing those areas. Same with Chromed steel, it will tend to rust over time, popping the neighbors dog with a BB or pellet gun, when/if he "lifts a leg" near your wheels is par for the course.

The polished aluminum wheels tend to corrode over time, so they have their faults too. If you let road grime, salt or brake dust build up on them...they start turning from shiney to that dull grey, with pits and blisters...there aren't any custome wheels that need 0% (zero) maintenance, at least none that I know of. The trick is to know what to look for and keep on top of it from the start. They all have this "new" coating, micro something???, supposed to impregnate the pores of the metal and prevent corrosion and rust from getting started. It's better than the clear coating they used to use...but I'm still skeptical.

personally, I usually sell off my Cragars after 3 - 4 years and buy a new set. The person I sell them to gets a good deal and I get a new set of wheels...everybody is happy!

See...thats what happens when someone says that "X" is "Crappy" or some other negative remark. Nixon was elected by a land slide, but no one seems to remember voting for him. The AMC pacer flew off the show room floor, but you never see them any more (or hardly any AMC/Rambler). they made millions of corvairs..."where da at now?".

Taste and opinions vary, thats what makes a ball game and our car hobby/addiction so interesting. No matter how odd or ugly a car or part or engine may be, somebody likes and sooner or latter it will tricked out.

Feel free to Like the Slotted Mags...with this "Starskey and Hutch" movie out, you might find them becoming popular again.

I agree whole heartedly. My opinion on the SS by no means inpunes anyone's right to like them or disagree with me. I happen to like slotted alloy wheels but I take no umbrage in the fact that you don't. (It was said with tongue in cheek BTW)I also look at these things from another view. I used to be a tire buster years ago so I saw all manner of wheels and I can tell you the the old style cragar SS were CRAP. Don't even get me started on "unilug" garbage. That being said the new solid forged ones look pretty sweet and I'm sure the quality is better than the junk I used to work on. I also will note that the slotted mags I like were also one of the worst wheels to install tires on if you weren't careful.ET's were terrible for cracking between spokes. Again methods for installing tires have improved now that alloy wheels are the rigour for many cars and low profile tires are the norm...
Given my druthers I still think the TT's are the better looking wheel but I just happen to like the darker painted spokes and a solid wheel rather than a full chrome composite wheel. If I was looking for an old style Cragar I'd get Cragar GT's, They had a flat faced spoke but they are rare as hens teeth.
At the end of the day both wheels will give the car the proper vintage look and consider the car is in London England there won't be many copycats running around. It's pretty much a personal taste thing. Stu

Kermit, those gray center Torque Thrusts are hard to beat. That's exactly what I would go with for your particular car. You're going pretty tall for a little Mustang, but of course, it's all personal opinion. Any way you slice it, they're gonna rock!
