Gas is over $2 a gallon
Ahhhh... the benefits of free trade.
As we buy more and more from China, they grow and grow, and consume more and more natural resources.
Now there is less for everyone else, and we will pay the price, or be forced to use less.
Clinton loved the Chinese...

If diesel gets any higher I'm gonna start running my ole truck on waste veggie oil, used motor oil, or whatever else I can find to dump in there. I learned the other day I can buy bulk new veggie oil cheaper than diesel.. sheesh.. I'll still have to crank it on diesel, but after a few minutes of warmup I can switch to the other. ..
Too bad the fine is so stiff for farm diesel, it's still halfway reasonable.

If I might add a possible silver lining to all these dark clouds: The higher gas gets, the sooner it's gonna be economically feasable to mass produce alternatives. Mark my words, two years from now you'll be able to buy a hybrid powered anything you want. Toyota will be bring out the hybrid Camry next fall and they have a 500HP hybrid Supra in the works. Why is that good news? The sooner we lower demand, the sooner the greedy bastard oil companies and arabs will be trying to give the stuff away at prices half of what they're getting now. All this may take a decade to sort itself out providing the wacko terrorists don't nuke the oil fields first.

Blaming one administration or one country is foolish. This one bound to happen sooner or later. We are running out of oil, regardless who is consuming it or not.
Also, don't kid yourself. The US has benefitted greatly, by the expansion of China's economy..but I'm getting off topic.

USA could use half as much oil as we do now... but with China growing at the rate it is now, overall consumption is only going to go up.
Remember, China has WAY more people than we do, and up until recently, most of the general population used almost ZERO oil.
As their population gets industrialized, and starts to buy and drive cars, etc... worldwide oil usage will go through the roof!
Free Trade accelerated the development of China in a HUGE way. China is the largest producer of pretty much everything. Companies are even moving out of Mexico to build factories in China.
China may have eventually industrialized without free trade, but it would have been at a much slower pace.
I still think we need to use up the middle east's oil supply and save our own until it gets really bad. Using all of ours up now, and leaving the middle east with all theirs in reserve is a truly scary thought!

Interesting thought ...
How many years could (for instance) Saudi Arabia pump crude oil ... at whatever the average normal rate in barrels per day is?
That would be one way to put these Islamic Whackos out of business.
And as for the basic question ... I have been paying about $2.20 per gallon for weeks and I have to fill a 35 gallon tank about every two days ... over $70.00 a pop.

That thought brings back memories of that MAD MAX "Road Warrior" movie.

Gas is over $2 a gallon
Sonoco 94 is still $1.99 a gallon with 93 at $1.97 and 87 at $1.77 while 89 is $1.87 a gallon. How can they charge $.10 more for 2 octane from 87 to 89 and then only $.10 for 4 more octane from 89 to 93 octane? Then $.2 more for 1 octane point from 93 to 94 octane? This has always seemed strange but at least 94 is still somewhat affordable here in upstate NY. My 2000 V10 crew cab off road 4x4 gets 8mpg now since I moved from Albuquerque to this low altitude and I have a 29 gallon tank I have to keep filling up quite frequently(with 87 octane). This sucks! The unleaded 104 race gas at the Sonoco station pump is $5 a gallon Hell, I can get true 112 race fuel for that price per gallon.

$1.65/gal for diesel. I enjoy 700+ miles per tank (44 gallon tank) and can typically avoid the day-to-day swings in prices. 87 octane around here is $1.89/gal. Diesel has hovered at $1.65 for about a month now, up from $1.59 where it had been for most of '04.
Thankfully the Galaxie which runs on 93 octane has the motor out and is not such a financial burden at this point in time.
