Gas is over $2 a gallon

Regular went to 1.99 from 1.84 today here in L-ville. The morning paper says we're now at the average price for the nation.

Wheew for a minute there I was worried

Most places are hovering around $1.84 for 87 octane here too. As for the price staying there, I hope you're right.

It appears that the price hasn't stayed there.

Re: Gas is over $2 a gallon

I remember the conversation and it was around that time that I took this pick in bullhead city and thought the price was unbelievable. Gas then was around $2.50/60 for the cheap stuff.

Re: Gas is over $2 a gallon

In just 8 years; Oil has gone from $30 per barrel, to over $130 per barrel. Gas has gone from $1.60 per gallon, to over $4.00 per gallon. That should indicate where prices are headed. The President of the 10w40 regime declares, "Mission Accomplished!"

Re: Gas is over $2 a gallon

Ok before anyone flames me I am not a math wiz so here goes. If the barrel of oil cost $30 and gas was $1.60 a gallon that would mean they made $58 profit a barrell (55x$1.6-$30=$58). Now a barrel of oil is $130 which comes out to $90(55x$4-$130=$90) . I know that is not all profit but what about the diesel and what not that is left after the make the gas?

Re: Gas is over $2 a gallon

Propane is a byproduct of gasoline and I paid $2.98 per gallon to heat my house last winter.

I'm not an engineer, but from what I've read, there is 42 gallons in a barrel of crude, and that produces about 20 gallons of straight refined gasoline per barrel of North American, Brent, or Arabian crude. Another 5 gallons can be refined into gasoline with exotic refining techniques. The remaining balance gets made into Heating oil, diesel, jet fuel, lubricants, and chemicals for making various byproducts from plastics to solvents.
