I caught the ba...rd who is stealing my fish

Hi,

something different this time for the garage.
I was wondering how our local heron was getting hold of our fish, despite the net over the pond.

well today I caught him in the act, sneaky monster.


in this picture, he is holding his head in the big bunch of flowers, hidding his body behind them, and wait until the fish arrives unaware of it. I have to fix the net, there is a hole init.


I did not want to scare him, he scared himself, but I got him when he was leaving.

beautiful garden. Very Asian, in a controled way...while still maintaining a western sense of order. tranquil

That is a beautiful garden and pond and reminds me of a similiar story.

My dad moved to the Sierra Nevada mountains here in California, and ever since he was a poor, Depression-era child he dreamed of having a pond with koi in it. So, he and I dug, designed, built, planted, etc. a koi pond over the course of a week. The man comes with the koi and places them in the pond, after my father hands him a small fortune. I fly back home to L.A.

I get home and the phone rings. It's my dad, barely able to talk from laughter. He's having lunch and he hears the shrieking of large birds. He runs outside just to see the last of his koi flying skyward in the clutches of a hawk! He ended up replacing them with some boring, non-descript fish which the hawks don't seem to take an interest in. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif[/img]

We've got a couple of big bull frogs and now several smaller ones to keep the mosquito's and the smaller fish under control...

I went to a one-day workshop on pond building, and the instructor said that herons are territorial, so you could keep them away by putting life-sized heron statues beside your pond.

They do sell them here, so there may be something to it.
