advice on buying a 5.0

I will be in the market within the next month or two for buying another car, a 5.0 preferably. I would just like some advice from those who work on and own 5.0's. I have owned a 68 for 4 years but like the idea of a more reliable sbf and the 5.0 is the way to go. I'm thinking one between 90-93 would be the best choice? Is there anything I should look out for, I know a lot of these cars already have mods done to them, is there any mods I should consider staying away from? I like the idea of a supercharged 5.0 but don't know how steatable, and economical it would be. any advice appreciated, such as what cars would be easier to work on, fuel injection, etc..

advice on buying a 5.0

start by checking the usual things, look for rust, evidence of bondo, etc. next thing is to check the condition of the lower control arm chassis mounts in the rear. they have a tendency to tear apart when abused. same with the upper arms just not as bad, most of the time. there is a fix for them and it isnt hard, but lower your bid accordingly. also look for evidence of chassis buckling when looking at cars that have or have been supercharged during their lifetime. look for things like the door gaps at the rear not being equal when the other door gaps are good, floor pan wrinkling, cracking in the body at the roof behind the doors(same place to look at in a 79 up bronco). for a manual car, check the condition of the clutch quadrant, they are cheap to replace but they are a biotch to get in from what i hear. thats all i can think of right now.

You would be best to get a 89-93 because they came with mass air. rbohm did a good job at what to look for, just wanted to add, take a look at the floor where the driver seat bolts into. If that ripped, it's another way to show abuse. Other then all that, just look for a clean, low mile car that's mostly stock because then you can do what you want and it also hasnt been beat on as much. Your gonna love these cars. They are cheep and easy to work on and they GO!

if you find a nice 5.0 in good shape, your first mods need to be subframe connectors, and the extreme matrix brace and jacking rails from kenny brown. then go with a set of battle boxes from wild rides(upper and lower unless you plan on using a torque arm, then just the lower). with those mods you will have a solid chassis for anything you want to do, untill you reach the 11 second braket. then you need a roll cage. one more thing to consider, instead of looking for a 5.0 car, try finding a 4 cylinder car. they are not abused like the 5.0 cars are. you can then swap a 5.0 in th efour poppers place if you so choose, or build a turbo 4(them things can make 400hp at the rear wheels! just check out tiny avengers motorsports).
