Changing 2000 Dodge Stratus rear shoes

I was looking at my girlfriends wheel cylinders on a 2000 Dodge stratus and noticed her rear shoes needed changing. The spring set-up is nothing like I have seen before. Any special tools for it? Do you assemble the springs in the shoes before installing the hold downs? Sorry about the Dodge question.....

Thanks,
Chris

If I were you, I'd take it to a dealership to have it done. Why? I have heard of some screwy things happening with brakes on Dodges, where the anti-lock brake mechanism activates. If you still want to do it, buy the manual, brakes can be easily screwed up becasue of the Anti-lock mechanisms. Also, make sure you use 'MOPAR' shoes, I had a buddy put NAPA brand brakes on his Dodge, and it resulted in the brake pads vibrating. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope it helps some...

I am a Master Certified Chrysler/Jeep tech....

This is what you are looking for.... This style is primarly used for imports... But Chrysler used this style on the Stratus/Cirrus/Sebring Convertible.... But any auto store should have one.... Even in the Matco catalog this special tool is in the import section of brake tools....

It is real easy to use... and you should have no problems doing it yourself... Dont worry about the ABS.... Youll be fine.... Just like doing any other brakes for the most part....

Good Luck, Billy

Thanks alot Billy!!! I didn't think I was going to have to worry about the ABS set-up, just was puzzled when I saw the spring set-up. Always like to plan ahead. Is there some kind of adjuster at the bottom to open and close them? I am picking up a manual tommorrow, should have done that a while ago.

Take Care,
Chris
