My Car Turns 44 Years Old Today

My 1961 Falcon was born this day in 1960 in San Jose, California. It rolled off the line with Lil' 144 cube 6 banger, 3 on the tree, bench seat and Wimbledon White paint. It's only upgrade was a radio.

I think I'll polish her tonight.

Happy Birthday to your Falcon. Are you sure it's a '61? June 1960 seems kinda early to be making 1961 models. My '62 was made in August '61 and the California registration has it as a 1961. Go figure.

Yeah Jim, it's definitely a '61 model. And according to the ID plate it was born in '61. It is probably one of the very first '61s to be built.

My Car Turns 44 Years Old Today

Mine was built May 5th 64, built at the LA plant. It went to Seatle and was sold June 8,64 to a guy in Beaverton Oregon. Two days before my birthday! I found the original owner because the registration card with all the info is still in the owners manual and he has an odd last name which made it a lot easier. Found his ex wife first. Then when I got his number and talked to him I had to convince him it was his car at one time. Back then he had an uncle that worked at the dealership so he got good deals on new cars and only kept them about 2 yrs and traded them in again. He said he had a maroon colored one also for a while. He called this one the 'lipstick' colored one.

How do you know the build date is 61 and not 62? I was just curious since it only shows the month and day. Might need that info for future reference. Or is it that the vin says 61 even though the vehicle is a 62?

Forgot to mention I found a guy's signature on one of the seat hinges under the chrome and the chrome 'retainer' when I had the seats apart. His name and Long Beach. I called a couple people with the same last name but didn't find anything. Thought whoever it was, if they were still alive would think it's pretty cool that one of their cars they 'autographed' when putting it together was still on the road.
