Garage GFI

Just in the last 2 weeks (after 8 years)I am popping the breaker on the gfi in the garage.It's 120 and will pop with just about any power tool.It does not pop the breaker in the house which is alone on the garge circuit.Do gfi's go bad over time?

Yup, they can [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img] Its rare, but it happens. Looks like a trip to homedepot is in order.

Yup, they don't like heat either. I had one in an outside box & it went bad twice! Re-wired the spa & put the GFI in the shade & viola!

Don't most GFI's have "test" and "reset" buttons?

The problem may not be anything you are plugging in, it could be another appliance on that circuit, that you are not even aware of...

If that is the case, swapping GFI's will not solve the problem. It'll just come back.

Nothing but the garage on this gfi.Went out today and it tripped with just the lights on.It's been there for 9 years and I used underground cable where it passes under the walk.I'll just replace it and see what happens.
