Add another death to the list

Oddly, deaths in the family or close friends never seem to really hit me til a year or two later when you start thinking about things in the past and such. This time it wasn't quite as easy, but I'll pull through. I just can't believe it really. I saw him last year for the first time in 10 yrs. I am just happy he didn't have to work that weekend and I was able to see him then. Still waiting on my sis to call and maybe get the full story on what happened.

I offer my sympathies.

I know what you mean, as far as it taking time for the full weight of the loss to be felt. The shock and the ritual of laying someone you love to rest can sheild you, in a way, there are arrangements to make, people to notify and friends and relatives to console.

It's only later, in the quiet times, that it sinks in...when you really "know" they are gone. Thats when you can let them go. Keep your memories of them...ultimately, thats what is important. That people should be better from having known each other.

I called home this morning and everyone is holding up for the most part. My aunt said that my cousin was only in the hopper for a minute and a half and they couldn't revive him. Not that it would have been that much easier but if he had died in a car accident it would have been more understandable at least. We all sort of expected that to happen rather than him actually doing something he was supposed to be doing. Oh well, guess he can have a beer with grandma and watch us crazy mortals down here.

Sorry to hear of your loses Deb. The uncle that taught me to drive everything from a lawn tractor to a 5 speed dump truck died this year and will be very missed. He was like a father to me and my brother since ours died when I was 5.

My prayers are with you and the family.

Sorry to hear that Deb. It's sad. Glad she lived a long full life.

I think of all the people I have lost in my life, a good friend that passed away in '99 is the one I miss the most. Being in the military and moving around all the time and rarely getting home for visits it kind of seperates a person from the rest of the family and you aren't quite 'in touch' with them anymore if you know what I mean. Being around and seeing them often makes things a lot more difficult at times like these. Grandma gave me a bunch of her cook books and all her recipes last year so I knew she was getting prepared. As for my cousin, I'll feel better after the autopsy when hopefully it will give more info. He was the odd one of the family, quiet most of the time and partying a lot and boy did he have a temper when we were all kids. We were so mean to him. I think we would do stuff just to watch him get mad. We were ornery kids and him being the youngest he was the most fun to pick on. Maybe grandma forgot to pack some beer so he had to deliver? Not sure that they would need beer where they go but you just never know.

On another note. I didn't even recognize the car at first with those wheels and the top up!!

Thanks for all the kind words and prayers. I'm actually doing good probably for the reasons stated in an earlier post. The rest of the family who saw them regularly it will be much more difficult. Me it's the quiet times when there is time to think that gets to me. My dad and stepmom just left this morning headed back to Oregon so more quiet times ahead. There is a bit of humour in all this I suppose. As my dad and my uncle's brother are going to send cards to them and they are the outcasts of the family so when the cards are recieved it will surely take thier minds off things for a little bit. They might use them to build a fire or something. Families sometimes are so screwed up. Especially when something as simple as a bible keeps them apart for I think, 30 yrs or more. Makes ya wonder who are the adults and who are the kids.

Just a short note that we now know what happened with my cousin. When he fell in the hopper a rock fell and hit him on the back of the neck and he was killed instantly. So at least it's more explainable even if at the same time makes no sense.
