Found out what was knocking in the Gal and....

may not have been our fault just poor machine work. We managed to get the oil pan out of the way enough to take the rod in question loose and found the rod bearing chewed alll to hell on #5. Looks like it is time to pull the motor out and see if anything else is messed up. At least now I know and I dont feel like a total idiot. That guy will not be getting anymore of my business and the thing is he had the best reputation out of anybody in town.

I have a question should I just pull the crank and have it turned or should I go ahead and pull the motor completely apart and start over? It seems like everything in the topend is fine I will know more once I get the motor out but just taking all suggestions.

My vote would be to pull it. It is usually a little cheaper to take the time and do it now then to do it twice when something else breaks later. I would also have concerns with condition of the cam bearings. Is best to take the time to clean it all up, inspect. and mic everything then put her all back together if all is good. Much better piece of mind that way.

I have to second that. I don't trust anyone with my work. Check it and blueprint as much as you can yourself!

Start over. Find a friend that works someplace he can borrow precision tools & measure everything before you assemble the next one. Even the best machinist makes mistakes, maybe he'll help ya out?
