Opinions on my Mustang hood

Guys, I am considering a Boss 9 hood scoop on my car. The first pic is from "stangbangers.com" and I dont know who owns the car, but needless to say its nice. The second is my car. Just FYI, mine sits like the Boss 9 now, the pic here was minutes after a front end rebuild. Larry....I know your opinion

What do you think, yes or no on the Boss 9 scoop? Thanks

First question is do you have to have a scoop for hood clearance reasons? If not, I'd vote for no scoop...The best looking 69/70 's stangs were one's without a scoop IMHO...

No not really a clearance problem. Although I run a 3 inch air cleaner, drop down, and I do think it could use a little more airflow and I am close to the hood now. The real reason is to get some airflow across the top of the motor. It gets so hellaciously hot in Vegas, and an FE fills the engine compartment from tower to tower.

Although it stays cool engine temp wise, there is nearly zero airflow to the back corners and the floorboards and cowl get very hot.

I know it wont be revolutionary, but it may give me just a little extra movement back there.

I vote no scoop - I don't think the scoop in the first pic would vent anything anyways. If hot floorboards is the main issue put some heat shield material down.If you really want a scoop and want one that WILL vent the heat out a 2 1/2" cowl does look nice on a stangs.

I like both versions. I like your car as is.
You decide what YOU want it to look like.
Too many times WE (the adoring fans), throw our peer pressure/weight around, and coherce/talk/peer pressure people to adding/subtracting something from their own rides.
Again, YOU decide what YOU like.
You've got one sharp stang,!!!

I promise I wont let you guys push me around

I am on the fence, so when sitting on the fence I tend to do nothing, which is what I am expecting to do overall!

Don't put the scoop on for venting the hot air from under the hood. You think it is hot at the floor boards now. Wait till you get hot air blowing out the scoop hitting the windshield and coming out the vents.. I have been through this before with a 67 GT 500 and a 69 GT 350 convertible. The only good thing about a scoop that isn't sealed off for cold air induction is that you know when the seal on the water pump is bad when antifreeze starts running down the hood.

I'll second that one!! My teardrop scoop gave a good indication of my oil leak on the Liner all over the windshield before the bearing let go...

I agree with the statement of the scoop not helping on the floorboard heat issue, that needs some shielding material to take care of that. But as far as the scoop, I personally feel the '69-'70 Boss429 Mustangs were some of the toughest looking around, especially when painted black...just awesome. But I also agree with the other statement, do what you want, it's your car. Just my nickels worth (I figure with inflation, 2cents just isn't enough now a days)
