Since the \"draft\" post has no easy answer, perhaps this question will be easier....
I dunno, I thought the "draft" question was easier... Don't the buggers go south for the winter? Move before he gets back next spring. Perhaps a cat would spook him enough to clear out?

Try an Owl, Hawk statue either on the roof or in a visible place near the area being attacked. Birds hate, dispise and fear birds of prey. You may have to replace it a few times, they will attack it, but after a while they may just go toa neighbors house instead of looking for dinner at yours.
One other thought. Most birds don't work for free. If the Woodpecker is attacking your house, you may want to have it looked over, for bugs like termites and what have you. Since woodpeckers eat bugs, grubs and worms...you have to think, he has got to be getting something out of beating up on your house?
Then again, he may just like the sound. Seriously, try a bird scarecrow.
Just in case you think I'm full of it, which is highly possible,...try this link.

Wood peckers are pretty smart birds, if a pain in the butt. They are there for one of two reasons. The first is if they are just storing acorns. The second is becasue they're after food. You may have little worms, termites, etc... in the trim that are attracting them. The woodpeckers can actually hear termites chomping away, so they know where to get them. Owls work, the remote sensors that activate rainbirds work too. Shoots a spray pattern in the direction of where you set it. That trick works on deer too, for a while anyways. If the birds are localized, you may want to drape some bird netting in the area of the roof/trim, then they can't get to where they're peckin'. Good Luck
Joe

Ok I was shamed on the draft thing, I'll try this. Must say that I have not seen a woodpecker in many years, they just don't seem to be in my neck of the woods I would say that the woodpecker needs a diversion. If it is a male woodpecker, try getting a female woodpecker to divert its attention

Get a fake owl and post hit on your roof top. That is probably a predator of the woodpecker and would scare them away. Or, get a fake bird and hang it upside down as a warning to the lil' peckers.
