Okay I'll ask my embarassing question - what makes a Cammer a Cammer? I always see that and have to admit I don't really know what it is
</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>

It was a FE 427 with special heads, each one holding an overhead cam on it, hence the moniker of SOHC "Single OverHead Cam" I believe it used the regular side oiler block, and had a unique front cover bolted on that housed a timing chain that was nearly six foot long. It was developed for Nascar, but I believe it was banned before it had a chance. That's it in a nutshell, but I know these guys know more about it than I do, so hopefully they will add more info to answer your question.

I used to think the same thing!! But as it was told to me, manufacturers desribe a lot of things by the single side when it comes to the top end...I always thought it should be considered a DOHC, since there are two cams. But I don't care how it's called, I think it's an impressive piece of engineering. Actually saw a picture once of a gear drive set up for the cammer looked like the inside of a watch with all the gears on it

Single Overhead Cam: Two heads, one cam in each. Double Overhead Cam: Two heads, two cams in each. A four cyclinder DOHC is often called a "twin cam" motor correctly so as it has a total of two cams. That oughta murky the waters sufficiently...

I've never actually seen a "Cammer". I remember seeing a picture of one as a kid. And when I got older, I just thought it was a weird dream I had, so I never talked about. Besides, I grew up in the Flint area and everyone there thought when you mentioned a 427 they thought you were talking about a Vette. It wasn't until much later in life when I was at able to talk with some Ford people that I realized that the "Monster" I saw was real.

Hey Greg, I just thought of something. What does the daughter think about all this? She ready to whoop butt on the track with something like that? I bet she would be, I know I would if I had the nerve to get out there in the first place!

Well, I hate to sound like the Big Sissy Boy, but more than likely the Cammer Edsel will be a cruiser/showboat more than a hard core racer.

I think I can probably only afford one of these engines in my lifetime.......

Well that's true! They aren't cheap and sure wouldn't want to risk turning it to scrap iron material.

Too bad I didn't know where one was!
