New view on my union

Well I was locked out of my job today after the last contract was turned down. The contract sucked but was something 31 of us could live with but for 55 ignorant people it was to much.AS we all were turned away I asked those people if what they had now was better than what they were offered - pretty silent for a moment.I have been growing dis-hearted with the union for a couple years now and find myself right now with no use for a union what so ever.Granted it has gotten the pay to where it's at but has held me back more than forward. Most of the 55 people didn't feel the company would let us walk and I tried to tell them you are not as important to them as you think you are but they would not listen.

What makes me and alot of others so mad is those 55 if so unhappy with what the company offers have a choice not to work there.Yet because of them I can't work there.Though I have no use for and would rather not belong to a union I will not cross a picket line.I have gotten my house in order just in case this happened and have printed up my biz cards for computer repair. But I know a lot of those 55 will not make it.I just can't understand why these people would turn down a good paying job in this day and age, especially in the west Michigan area.To my surprise the company has stated the offer is still on the table if the union is willing to except it.I will be doing everything I can to get my pc repair biz going full time (ain't going to bad now)but it is my hope these 55 people realize what they have there they will not find else where very easy.

PhatFalcon...hope u didn't mean that as a slam, we meet at the drags in Columbus this summer and I thought u was a nice guy

FoMoCo sorry u are out a job at this point, hope that things change for the better.

IF I read yer post correctly, u say ever one got to vote on the contract proposal? If so, did the 55 have a mind of there own, or where they all just stupided people standing at the balot box with a gun held to there heads by the Union telling them to vote NO on there bread and butter

I fell bad for any one that losses there job, I pry that you and ever one can get it resolved and back to work. My opinion was not to you, but only to add my opinion on yer situation

The union I belong to is the same as Bob's just at a small plant. Some think the UAW has the same power everywhere but they don't.Power is based on the size of the body at each company not in a name.Bob I am on the election committee and I ensure a fair vote so to answer your question everyone was free to vote as they saw fit.The problem is a few got the the younger people to think the company would not dare lock us out.Convincing them we were to valuable and they could not make it without us. A big sticking point was retiree health care in which they wanted us to agree to dropping part of it for current retirees. In the end they took that off the table but said they would pull it on their own anyway at the first of the year.Last straw for we which I did not mention before is the unit chair is running for state rep in my area and I know for a fact I will hear in his next campaign something along the lines of *I fought a long bitter labor dispute to protect jobs.........*The way he has handle this and the direction he took it convinces me (and others) he wanted this for political gains.Just by the look on some of their faces you could tell they didn't think this would happen. If I owned the company I would do exactly as they are doing.I truly feel sorry for the no voters because very few of them will ever find a job that pays as much as they were making and some are unemployable do to health or age.

FoMoCo....You being on the election committee you would know what is best for yer company. I fell bad fore you , because I have been in yer shoes before (sort of) I have been through many contracts at JEEP and have sweat bullets because the company said if we don't pass the contract they would move And I was the first to say, I will do any thing to keep my job, even if it was to vote against my Union. I truly hope that yer job will be saved and the 55 will wake up and look at the big picture.

I would like to tell ever one, that I didn't mean to brag about the Union. I was at war with some in the Garage I do not fell that I'm better than any one. I have been blessed with a long ride at JEEP and I know that part of it was do to the Union.

Once again...I pry that you all keep yer jobs
