400+ street racers busted!!!

A local news channel, Fox 9, is running a story about a sting the twin cities police pulled off. When it was over they had 400+ cars lined up. Only 28 were arrested for racing (9 others escaped) but they also had arrests for warrants, drugs/alcohol, and they still have to check the cars for stolen parts.

The whole thing was pretty impressive.

They just had 2, at least reported, crashes street racing related in the LA area. Haven't heard if they've caught up to the silver Tbird that left the scene of one of them or not. I was kinda upset with the news for not telling the year of the mystery Tbird.

No matter the fine or punishment there will aways be street racing, just like beer/drug abuse you cant stop it by simply arresting them.

Dont worry, they'll ban gas in a few years, figure out how to charge for fresh mountain air-in-a-can, and make everyone wear dasies in their hair on Wednesday. The amendment to that law would be everyday isWednesday![img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif[/img] They should just remove the legs (only below the knee of course) of a street racer if he/she kills someone. Pretty hard to race a car with hand controls for throttle/braking.

Drinking beer is like killing or hurting someone street racing? It was wrong when we did it and it's wrong now. Hope someone you know isn't hurt by some dumbass that think's they're too good to go pay $17 to run it out on the track.

If they can install $5000 worth of bling bling on their car then I think they could afford a $17 entry fee at the local track, the real reason most street racers dont go to the track is they dont want to know what their car will run because it would be embaressing.

Chris, I believe the street racers that race in traffic or on streets that are not abandoned should be dealt with harshly but I think out in the middle of nowhere nice wide industrial streets on Fri and Sat nights is acceptable IF the spectators are not lined up along the road in front of the starting line. Responsible and coordinated street racing gatherings can be safe and fun. I have witnessed this type of street racing for many years in Texas when I lived there and some in Tulsa and a good club in Albuquerque that sets up street racing at different nights and times in different places. Keeps the cops from figuring it all out and only people "in the circle" get the phone call with the "where and when" part. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_tup.gif[/img]

The police are also more likely to turn a 'blind eye' to racing that is out in the middle of nowhere, where the general public is not at risk. They are out there every night, and realize street racing is not going to go away. If they run people out of the 'safe' places, there will be more racing in congested areas.

Racers will often 'police' themselves by keeping the drunken/stoned idiots away. These are the trash that litter the place up with, bottles, cans, etc. These are the jerkfaces that start fights and cause problems. They are the ones who draw the attention of the police. Keep them out and race in a safe place... and you've got a really fun and exciting night of racing!
