To Shelby clone it or not?

o yea one more thing. its probibaly alot cheeper to make it "yours", those speciality parts to make clones arent cheep, partley its because waht you need to make the clone in the first place. so just go nuts and be your self.

I have looked at all I need to build my '65 into a Shelby clone and I need some advice. Should I do it at all, or should I do it cosmetically only and forget about the 4 speed, 9",rollbar etc.? I am going to take some of y'alls advice and forget about another car and finish mine.

How about a "CupCake's Mustang", instead? There are a million Shelby clones running around, so why not finish the car in a way that is you? Unless you're going to race it, why do you really need a roll bar? Since you're running a SBF on the street, do you need a 9" rear end? 8 inchers are tough enough even if you want to race it. Just take some time, look at a bunch of 'Stangs, combine the features of any you like and come up with a concept that is really 'you'.

BTW, this is my biggest bitch with car building and it has nothing to do with CC. It seems very few have the imagination to build their 'own' car. Everybody seems to follow a pattern that has already been done. At Woodward '04, I liked Highpocket's Fairlane and Greg's Edsled best. They were different and I liked that. I don't care if anyone is impressed by my concept of a '64 Ford stock car for the street, but it's "me", if ya know what I mean.

Congratulations on making a choice! That's step one for sure.
If that car were mine I'd keep the 289/4 speed and bump the rear gear ratio to 3.25 or a little more to make that car a bit more rapid. A set of wheels/tires you like and maybe trick the interior a bit (that's where YOU will be spending the time while enjoying the car), put some AC on if it didn't come with the car, a nice sound system and drive it. Just make it safe and enjoy!

Whatever you do, just dont put it on "Pimp My Ride" or put blingy 20" inch wheels on it classic Mustangs dont make good ghetto vehicles!

clones are great IMO. you could have the look of a rare car without spending the dollars. i plan to build a B/FX clone (appearence only) of my cyclone which to be honest isnt too much different looking than the car originaly looked with the exception of a load of fiberglass body pannels. so more power to you CupCake, just remember its your car so build it however you would enjoy it most.
