To Shelby clone it or not?

I have looked at all I need to build my '65 into a Shelby clone and I need some advice. Should I do it at all, or should I do it cosmetically only and forget about the 4 speed, 9",rollbar etc.? I am going to take some of y'alls advice and forget about another car and finish mine.

Do what you have to so it is driveable, then add on from there as you can afford it.

A "CLONE" is exactly that.

That being said, it would depend on your taste, and or the personallity that you want your classic to portray.

Personally, cosmetic changes would suffice. However, the condition that your classic is in would suggest getting the mechanicals up to spec first, then add as finances would allow. Take your time. Your finished product deserves it.

A shelby clone would be nice but I think that a stock looking sleeper fastback that gets up and goes would be the way to go. Either way you go, be prepared to shell out some greenbacks.

I would just do it cosmetically, and forget about all the other detailed stuff. If you have the money put a t5 in or an AOD and forget about the 4 speed. I personally like the 65-66 Mustangs and Shelbys, but it’s what you want that really matters. Don’t get caught up in what you think everyone else wants your car too be. Truth is, you probable would enjoy your car as 65 fastback just as much as a 65 Shelby clone. Have lots of fun with it when your done, because that is what its really about.

I like "clone cars".....

They allow you to have a copy of something that you prolly can't afford a "real" version of?

ALL my cars end up being "clones" of 60s Super Stock drag cars.....you don't wanna know what a "real" 60s A/FX car sells for.......

The car is done mechanically, stock 298 4V, C-4, 8" -3.00 geared rear end, and the suspension and brakes are rebuit, but stock. I need to assemble the body, its already painted, and get an interior in it. Now is the time to make some changes.

Besides getting to be able to drive the car first. I personally would say no, I think Shelby clones are over done. Why clone something if you can build your own version of your car? But it is your car and do as you see fit.

If (as I suspect) you already know which way you want to go, stick to the plan even if it means waiting a little longer.

If you don't, you'll never really be happy with it, and you'll end up doing it over later anyway, which will make what you did first a waste of time and money.

As the saying goes,

"There's never enough time and money to do it right the first time, but there's always enough to do it over again."

ok.. if this was me...

i would not go all the way to make a shelby clone.. than you would have guys and mabey some girls all over you saying this isent right, that isent right. what i would do is make keep what you have and "Tastefully" add shelby parts. for instance (im not a shelby expert or even clse with a mustang plz dont flame me) air dam, spoiler?, fog lights, stripes if you like and mabey a steering wheel. not too much. hell, rims if you like. make it your version of a shelby. that ay it doesent ahve to be prefect to factory specs like people expect.

basicley a every day street-able, kinda lke a shelby. but most importantley "Your Shelby" if you dont like a particular option dont include it, theres somthing you like but not correct year or even car stick it on.

this may sound like a broken record but i am just learning this my slef and with my galaxie. Its YOUR car, do wahtever YOU want.

just trying to help.
