Pissed... Returned my GeForce 6800 and they didn\'t give me my money back...
On Friday I returned the BFG Tech GeForce 6800 I bought. I found out the card was shoddy. Tried two different cards and both had awful quality at higher resolutions and refresh rates. Totally unacceptable for a $300 card.
Anyhow, I returned it. No other brand 6800 or 6800 GT cards in stock, so I asked for ym money back. They said no problem, swiped the card I paid for it with, said I was good to go, and I was on my way. I checked my account later and say the money had not been returned. I figured okay, maybe it'll take a little time to go through and the money to be back in my account. Figured if I didn't have my money back when I get back from the weekend in CT I'll go and see what the deal is. Still no money, so tomorrow morning I gotta go to Best Buy and find out why they have not put the money back in my account. I'm royally peeved. Oh well, I'll see what the deal is with it tomorrow... They best not give me a hard time over this, $300 is not chump change to me...

The transaction might not have gone through yet... as you did it on Friday, right before the weekend, and Monday was a holiday.

Talked to them and they said it can take up to 7-8 days for it to go through. So if no money is put in my account by Saturday evening I'm gonna be quite upset. It's absurd that it should take so long to give my money back when they take it right away...

Get a Powercolor Radeon 9800SE (with 256-bit memory interface) and install the modded drivers to turn it into a 9800Pro. $150 for a card that performs like a $250 card
BTW, saw that topic and thought it somehow got transported from a computer geek forum to FM Glad I'm not the only geek here

then add a shot of nitrous to give it that extra kick for starting up programs, but you will have to use a dry system..

Yeah, for a while I thought I was the only computer nerd/gearhead here. Turns out it's not all that uncommon a combination. FoMoCo is into computers and does some IT work on the side (he's also got a pretty sweet '68 Gal), and you should see Kermits cooling rig... Wow, he went overboard with teh water cooling of everything!
Anyhow, I'm back to my old LeadTek Ti4200 clocked at 265/593. It does pretty well, and can even play Half-Life 2 with all the detail at max at 800x600 (though Doom 3 I really gotta turn teh detail down to make it work smoothly throughout the game). The BFG Tech 6800 had awful display output, it was very blurry. Other than that it was great, performed awsome and the graphics were nice, although you could tell it was blurry/fuzzy if you looekd closely.
When I get my money back I may pick up a 6600 or 6600GT. I wanna save a little money for new heads for the Gal... As the warm weather approches in about 2 months I wanna pull my engine, reaplce the oil pan and timnig cover gaskets (leaks), put on that new aluminum water pump I have, put on a pair of Pro Topline iron heads along with roller rockers, a new cam, and then upgrade my aluminum Ford intake to a Weiland Stealth. Gee now that I write it all out that sounds kinda expensive... Oh well, it'll be worth it when the old Gal has some more guts to her. Not to mention in 7-10 years it'll pay for itself in savings from lower octane gas and better mileage from a better timing curve. I doubt if I'll go that long without any major upgrades, but still, it's a way for me to rationalize it.

I thought that the SE versions had 4 bus pipes instead of 8?
I love the 9700 Pro i have ($150) Runs well (don't have Half life 2 to test it yet) Doom 3 maybe i can borrow for a benchmark.

That's right, but it's the exact same core, just with four of the pipelines disabled. Some of the chips have flaws in the pipelines and so they are sold as SE's... but the demand is so great that a lot of flawless chips also are sold as SEs... either that or the flaw is neglegable (a random white pixel every so often). Like I said though make sure you get the SE with the 256bit bus, so that it's a true 9800Pro after the mod. Mine has been working perfect for months, been playing Doom3 on the medium detail level (becuase it's a 128MB card) and 1024x768 res smooth as silk
