Thinking of buying a Honda

................A honda motorcycle that is! Im selling my newly finished barstool racer on ebay and I am planning my next one which will be a whole lot faster. Searching through the local classifieds I have found that Honda cb 350 and 550 motorcycles running can be had for cheap (under $500). My plan is to buy one and use its engine in a track only barstool racer. The 350s are a twin with 36hp @10500rpm and the 550 is an I-4 with 50hp @8500rpm. Does anyone here know much about bikes and want to chime in, Im certainly not set on these bikes and am open to suggestions. I do appoligize for not keeping on track with ford cars but I promise to put a big blue oval on my next barstool racer

Twins vibrate, even from Honda. I would look for a 350-4 if you can find one. The 400-4s are worth too much, especially when they are dead sexy like mine!

The power band is liquid smooth....

Beautiful bike. I dont mind vibration because this will only be used on the 1/8th mile strip. I want the most bang for the buck from a motorcycle motor. What about the 550 4? They are pretty cheap around me.

Maxpower, I forgot to ask you what kind of get up do them bikes have like the one you have? My barstool racer should weigh no more than a street bike and I want to get an idea of what to expect. Do you have any 1/4 mile times?

Wow 35+hp on one of those barstools, you'd have to be nuts to take that to the 1/8th mile, it'll probably be going close to 50mph lol! I'd make sure you beef up EVERYTHING on this tire-shredding barstool racer. Looking at your picture, the steering linkage looks fine for what you've got in it so far, but for something that will be doing some speed you'll probably want something a little more sturdy. Of course pictures can be decieving, so feel free to put me in my place if I'm wrong

</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE> Thats a slick bike. I was thinking about getting somthing similar. I have a Honda 360 and a 250 M/T. I've always prefered the Triumph look to the overdone Harley stuff.

I would pass on anything but the 550-4. The twins all suck &amp; vibrate but you can't beat a Honda inline 4 for being smoothe. There's cheaper ways to do it as well. Look on ebay at just the engines. I bought a KZ650 engine for $125 &amp; it ran great!
I personally would use a big twin 2-stroke if I wanted to go down the track just to be different, but then I love 2-strokes

Check out your local car auctions. Always some formerly nice bikes that some dude dropped at 90 mph going for 75 bucks or so. Sounds like your well on your way to making a dwarf car

</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE> You are right, like I said in my first post that the barstool in my sig is being sold. I will be building a new one with mostly jr drag components, like jr drag 18"tall slicks. The wheelbase will be a little longer and the stool further back and lower as well as high speed trailor tires up front with 3/8" tie rods and HD spindles. With a 550cc I-4 and proper gearing drag2000 predicts 1/8th mile times of low 8s @ 80ish! And yes I am a little crazy

Thank you guys for the ideas, I am scoping ebay as we speak looking for deals. If you have any other opinions of what motor to use then please let me know. This post is not a joke and I really am considering building this if I find a solid plan and can fund it. An 80mph barstool might sound crazy to you but I have nothing but the safest intentions I wouldnt do anything that I thought would danger my life or the guy in the other lane. My biggest fear would be the 7-second mopar in the next lane getting out of his "groove" and tagging me.
