Should I sell/trade my 400?

I've got a serious 400 in my 4x4 with under 6K on it. I've got a boy with the money that's dying to have it in his Bronco. I've also got a milder 400 in another truck (that has maybe 8K since it's been rebuilt, more on that in a minute) I can use until I get my 514 together.

I won't get all my money out of the 400, but it'll be pretty damned close. He wants it carb to oil pan, with the headers to boot.

It's got a 770 Holley Avenger, modded Weiand Action Plus intake (plemum divider cut down, gasket matched to heads), the heads have good springs, retainers, and 4bbl Cleveland valves on ported and polished 2bbl Cleveland heads.

The block was decked, it's had some crank and rod work (otherwise stock), has around 11.3:1 compression and a custom grind Compcam with a good chain, and a bunch of other stuff done to boot. Also has a Jacobs offroad ignition and a Accel Distributor.

Not sure what it does on power, but it'll push my 78 F150 shortbed stepside 4x4 (that weighs around 5000) to 14.38s in the quarter (at 98mph, I think). That's with 4.88s and 33s (to race, otherwise I run 35s).

Anyway, he'll give me $2500.00 for it... I've got over 4K in that stuff, but I think $2500 is pretty reasonable for it, considering the milage, ect... might even be a little high for it? I'm not complaining on the price.

I've got all the receits on the other 400 I have, it's got a Compcams Xtreme energy cam, weiand intake, 660 Holley avenger, about 10.1:1 compression, but otherwise stock, best I can tell. It runs pretty good, but has nowhere near the power of my current 400.

Anyway, I plan on using the money (if he's serious, and I'm certain he is) to get a ****box to drive, and put the rest towards the 514 that'll be in it sooner or later, but I can use my other 400 for now.

Well it sounds like you have plans to build something else anyway (514) so sooner or later your 400 will be sold so I guess its a matter of selling it now for what sounds to be a pretty good price or use it untell the (514) is done then try and sell it but may not be able to get the same money out of it.
Hell I have a 428 FE with less then 1500 miles and a **** load od work and money invested. I would love to find some kid that would give 2500 bucks for it so I could build me a stroker big block. Thats been my plan before this one was finished
GO FOR IT........

If you can get 2500 for it I would jump on it. I just bought a 351C with 8K miles for 600 with the tranny. It is hooked up pretty nice too.

Well, if you're going to sell it eventually, and you've got a buyer, go for it. But, it seems even with 8K miles on it $2,500 is a bit low, considering your giving him the complete engine.

Actually, yeah, it's got a gear reduction starter that goes with it, I won't need it for the other engine.

Personally I think you're taking too much of a hit on that engine. That was an expensive 6000 miles you put on it if you sell it for $2500.

Obviously it's very hard to get your moneys worth from selling a used motor. People don't wanna spend what a good sued engine in good condition is worth (as far as how much was put into it anyway).

It's your call, but personally I'd want a bit more than $2500 for only having 6k miles on the engine.

Well, as it turns out he can't raise the cash for it, however, I just sold him the other 400, so that's cool.

My wife informs me that the money is already spoken for, lol. Nothing like being married.
