C4 - Fe Bellhousing being born (Big Post)

I have been slowly over the past couple of years working on making a spare bellhousing for my drag car. Since I do them on a CNC mill 3 was almost as easy as 1 so I made 3
First picture show my First CNC Machining Centre with bellhousing on the table

Next picture shows bellhousing as welded.I found 3 junk C-6's and cut the bellhousing off the case, machine housing to a height and weld a 3/8 plate to the housing. I cut an old 390 block up and use a 2inch thich section with the bellhousing pattern for a locating and machining fixture

First step is to make a flat finished face at the correct height. The step on this side is for pan clearance on the tranny

Next step is to mill profile to clear the pump bolts on the tranny and rough in diamter that located housing to tranny pump.

Then the clearance diameter that allows the pump to sit into the housing is cut, at the same time I cut the diameter that fits tight on the pump to make sure the alignment is good between tranny and engine

Final steps are to drill holes to bolt to tranny, deburr sharp edges and counterbore the bolt hole that is very close to the original bellhousing(on opposite side).

One finished C-4 to FE bellhousing ready for the drag racing wars.

As a machinist myself, I can appriciate the time and effort involved in your project.
Without the access to the machines that I have, I probably wouldn't be so deep into this hobby we call cars.

I have been very lucky over the years. The mill in the picture belongs to my partner and I. But I have worked in machine shops where I was allowed to use the equipment weekends and nights as long as I left things the way they were.
I am too much of a businessman to make my own parts on this machine during regular working hours but I spent 3-4 hours yesterday getting things ready and did the housings in 4 hours today.

A lot of people don't realize that we do a lot at work. I work for a small aircraft parts maker & use the lathes & mills a lot. Saves a LOT of money

Saves a TON of money!

I'm getting ready to buy a tig welder.

I might try my hand at making sheet metal valve covers.

If I could talk Mario into making the billet rails, it should turn out really nice.

Wow! That's cool seeing it done. I'd think there'd have to at least be small market for those?

Already 2 players in the game, JPT has been selling them for quite some time. Their $625.00 price tap is what made me build my first one.
Performance Automatic sells one too, its somewhere around $500.00
